Present. Mindful. Terrified.

Maybe zen isn’t something you achieve. Maybe it’s something you stumble across when you’re busy making cupcake bouquets. For me, it turns out zen doesn’t always look like meditation cushions and deep breathing. Sometimes it looks like buttercream flowers, sticky fingers, and being completely absorbed in creating something yummy. 🧁

House: decorated. Dogs: unimpressed. 🎈

Can’t talk right now, he’s processing big feelings with Bluey.
After a rough day home with croup, only emotional support Bluey floaties could fix this level of drama.

No one touched me.
No one asked me for snacks.
Nobody yelled “Muuuuum” at the top of their lungs.

Honestly? 10/10. Highly recommend. 😂

And maybe that’s the thing about self-care in motherhood. Sometimes it isn’t deep breathing, green smoothies or a 6-step skin care routine. Sometimes it’s just finding a tiny pocket of quiet where nobody needs anything from you for 40 whole minutes.

We can put so much pressure on ourselves to “do self-care properly,” when in reality, most of us are just trying to survive the weekend logistics of sport, birthday parties, lunchboxes, laundry, grocery runs and the mental gymnastics of remembering who needs what, when and where.

Sometimes self-care is:
🥤 A beach walk with a Diet Coke
🚗 Sitting alone in your car for an extra 5 minutes
📱 Doom scrolling in silence
☀️ Feeling sunlight on your face without simultaneously wiping someone else’s nose

Tiny glimmers count too. And sometimes those little moments are exactly what help us reset, particularly when a day to yourself, a trip to the spa or even an entire pilates class feels too hard.

As a perinatal psychologist and a mum, I fully support celebrating the tiny moments that make you feel like you’ve got it together 😂 This cake turned out far more Pinterest-worthy than I expected, so I’ll absolutely be taking the win 👏💛

If you’re also in the “doing my best and calling it magic” phase of motherhood, I see you! Cardboard chaos counts as effort, and effort counts as love. 💙

Not every bite has to be balanced, not every routine perfectly followed.

Sometimes it’s just about joy, connection, and watching them experience the world in their own sweet way.
(And accepting that 70% of the ice cream will end up everywhere except their mouth 🍦😅)

Sleep deprivation in motherhood isn’t just “being tired.”
It’s the foggy brain, the short fuse, the tears that come out of nowhere, the wondering of how am I meant to keep doing this?
And yet… we do.
We keep showing up, loving, soothing, trying again the next night 🤍
If you’re in the trenches of broken sleep, you’re not failing. Your nervous system is just exhausted.
Be gentle with yourself today. I am.
