There was a version of me that thought being busy meant being important. I derived my value from what I done and what I could offer rather than from who I was. That version of me is not sustainable and I faced burnout. I was forced to slow down.

Stillness felt uncomfortable at first. But that discomfort was telling me something.

💬 What does slowing down bring up for you?

This draws a clear line between two very different kinds of difficulty. Some of what we carry, chronic tension, poor posture, anxiety that lives in the body, can actually be addressed through consistent practice. And then there are things in life that simply cannot be fixed or changed. For those, yoga builds a different kind of capacity: the ability to remain steady inside of circumstances that are out of your control.

Something that applies to all things in life. Sthira sukham āsanam.

Sthira means steady. Sukha means ease. Asanam means your seat, your posture, the way you hold yourself.

Here, patanjali is saying that your practice shouldn’t feel like a battle. You’re looking for that place where you’re grounded but not rigid, relaxed yet present and aware. A true balance of effort and ease to create strength and sustainability in the pose, and in life.

How often do we push so hard we forget to breathe? Or relax too much in to the feminine flow that we neglect to do our part?

Yoga brings you back to the middle.

If you want to explore that for yourself, keep an eye out for the online classes commencing soon.

I didn’t start as a “daily yoga” person. Yoga was always about fun, convenience and fitting into my schedule.

But when I began to scheduled things around yoga and saw it as a practice of discipline, things changed for me.

B.K.S. Iyengar began practicing yoga as a sick, underweight teenager in 1930s India, not because it was trendy or aesthetic, but because he was trying to heal and survive.

After more than 70 years of practice, he spoke about yoga as something much deeper than movement or motivation. The “light” he refers to is awareness, something built through consistent practice that continues to guide you, even when life feels difficult.

In the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the phrase “Yogas citta-vrtti-nirodhah” is often translated as “Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.”

It describes yoga not simply as physical movement, but as a state in which the restless patterns of thought, emotion, memory, and mental distraction become quiet.

In this stillness, awareness is no longer pulled around by constant mental activity, allowing a person to experience deeper clarity, presence, and connection with their true nature.
