It's All Good, Natural Therapies by Brooke Brooke Allwood
Naturopath; Nutritionist; Iridologist
Sunshine Coast + Hervey Bay I'm the owner of It's All Good. I now work at BBHHC 2 days a fortnight.

Hi, I'm Brooke
I'm a food loving, herbal medicine (and dog) obsessed Naturopath, Nutritionist and Iridologist. I worked as a Pharmacy Assistant for 8 years before completing my Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy and my Advanced Diploma of Nutritional Medicine in July 2016. My time as a Pharmacy Assistant exposed me to knowledge about pharmaceutical medications, their benefits and their side effects,

and the important role qualified Naturopaths have in preventing and reducing the need for such medications. While studying my Advanced Diplomas I was required to complete over 680 hours of supervised clinical prac. The first few hundred hours were completed on campus in Brisbane, the remaining were completed at Bargara Beach Holistic Health Centre, where, after a few additional months volunteering I began consulting. I am passionate about health and wellness on all levels; physical, mental and emotional, and I always strive to get to the root cause of conditions and treat each person as an individual. I work extensively with medical blood pathology, functional pathology, intolerance/allergy testing, compatibility testing and Iridology in my search for the underlying conditions causing current symptoms. I utilise dietary and lifestyle modifications as well as herbal and nutritional supplements, Australian Bush Flower Essences, homeopathy and energy healing as required to manage symptoms and address the underlying cause. I love working with all conditions but specialise in:
digestive issues (IBS, bloating, diarrhoea, food sensitivities)
skin conditions (acne, eczema, dermatitis)
lowered immunit
mood disorders (anxiety, depression, low confidence, stress)
fatigue and sleep condition
nutrient deficiencies

Taking statins? Take Ubiquinol...if prescribed by a naturopath…

PS there ARE highly effective supplements that can be used alongside dietary and lifestyle medications that can safely and quickly bring down problematic high cholesterol.

I’m all for the use of pharmaceutical meds when needed but statins should be a last resort for treating high cholesterol if it is safe to first utilise herbs, nutrients and dietary medications etc.

There are links between statin use and personality changes - most notably anger, irritability and aggression in people that have never shown those traits before.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for the use of pharmaceuticals when required. I, of course, believe we should utilise herbs/nutrients and dietary/lifestyle modifications first… but sometimes pharmaceuticals are required!

Let’s spend the next little while going through some of the most common pharmaceuticals I see in clinic and the nutrient deficiencies linked to their use. I’ll give you some easy dietary suggestions to consider too!

Ashwaghanda has been all the rage for a long time now. I’ve had countless clients over the years present to clinic already taking it and am always seeing it recommended online.

I love, love, love this herb.
It has always been (and always will be) one of my favourites.

BUT, it is not safe for everyone!

I’ve had to tell numerous clients to stop taking it.

Withania is a potent thyroid tonic meaning it improves the function of the thyroid. This means that it can have a really positive effect on hypothyroidism and a potentially negative effect when used in an optimally functioning or hyper active thyroid.

Withania should be used under supervision to ensure its actions don’t mess with the thyroid. And while it is safe to take with thyroid meds it can enhance their action… gotta monitor! We don’t want you ending up hyper. (Which TBH happens too much already when clients are taking thyroxine etc)

Like with all herbs, there are other cautions and contraindications too.

Just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it’s always safe.

(Withania is an incredibly safe herb and I bloody love it)
