Metabolic Balance starts with a full blood panel, more than 30 markers, so we can see exactly what's happening in your body rather than guessing.

From there, I build a personalised food plan around your own biochemistry. No shakes, no points, no eliminating entire food groups. Just real food, in the right combinations, to support your metabolism, hormones and liver at the same time.

It's not trend driven, and it's not restrictive. It's scientifically backed and personalised to you.

It's not a quick fix and it's not one-size-fits-all. It's a plan built for your body, at this stage of your life.

If you'd like to know more about how it works, send me a message.

If you’ve never seen a naturopath before, taking that first step can feel a little uncertain - that’s completely normal.

To make it easier, I offer a free 10-minute clarity call where you can ask questions and understand how naturopathy may support your health goals before booking.

Your initial consultation is 75 minutes, and is designed to give us time to explore your health in detail.

Before your appointment, it can be helpful to:

• Gather any recent blood test results and email them through (or bring them with you)
• Take a photo or list of any medications and supplements you’re currently using

I consult in person at LifeForce Health Solutions in Golden Grove, and also offer online consultations for clients outside the local area.

My focus is simple:

Using a client centred approach to feel heard, understood, and supported and to help you feel empowered in your health journey through clear education and practical guidance.

If you’re curious but unsure, start with the clarity call. I’d love to hear from you.

Bloating that starts the moment you wake up and doesn't let up through the day is one of the most common things women in menopause bring to me.

There's a real, physiological reason for it. As oestrogen declines, so does the diversity of your gut microbiome, particularly the lactobacilli species. Your gut barrier function weakens too, which means more intestinal permeability, and bile acid metabolism shifts in a way that affects how well you digest fats.

None of that is something you can just push through with willpower, and it isn't something you're imagining.

If bloating has become a frustrating part of your day, I'd love to help you work through it.

I wonder if you could please take a moment to help me.

This year I’m an entrant in the Greater Adelaide Local Business Awards in the Health Improvement Category.

I’ve been supporting individuals in the North Eastern area of Adelaide with naturopathy for 15 years.

I find it easy to hold space and advocate for a client, because I sincerely want them to get the improvement in their health that they came to me for help with.

However, asking for help isn’t my greatest strength but here I am asking if you could please vote for me if you feel called to.

Here is the link to vote :https://thebusinessawards.com.au/86116/melisa-byrne-naturopath

I’ll also add the link in the comments 😊

Thankyou, it means a lot to me 😊

The power of Yoga.

I discovered yoga after finishing my degree in 2012, and my first class was Bikram yoga at a studio in Modbury.

I was one of the few people who stayed in the room for the entire class without stopping to sit or lie down when the heat became overwhelming. After that first class, I realised I responded differently to the challenge than many others, who found the heat too intense and needed to step out.

The heat, the sweating, and the challenge of some of the asanas didn't deter me. In fact, after my 10-day trial, I signed up for a six-month membership and continued practising for years until the studio eventually closed.

Yoga has helped improve my balance and flexibility, but more importantly, it has taught me the power of diaphragmatic breathing. Focusing on my breath helps regulate my nervous system and promotes a sense of calm, especially when life feels busy or chaotic.

As women move through perimenopause and menopause, practices that support the nervous system can become just as important as those that support physical fitness.

Have you ever tried yoga, and what has it taught you?

Thank you to Bohemian Ekko Creative for capturing me in my yoga wear during my recent brand photoshoot.

𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 ☀️🌞

Witnessing the sun rising over Golden Grove, before my day in clinic.

It was easy, because I woke refreshed and ready for the day at 6.30.

No coffee needed.

This is how our ancestors lived, and undoubtedly what both my paternal grandmother and great grandmother did living on a farm sharing the load of farm duties.

It’s nostalgic, but also normal because this is how many generations lived before the invention of the lightbulb, computer and mobile phone.

These inventions although a marvel have disturbed our sleep-wake cycle and circadian rhythm through blue light.

Exposing your eyes to this spectrum of light (orange and red light) research is showing that helps the mitochondria, in addition to sleep.

If you can make this habit your normal, it will change how you feel and make your start to the day extraordinary ☀️☀️

Are you with me on this ?

In a recent Masterclass presented for Bodhi Holistic Hub "Blood pathology: when Normal Isn't Optimal," I discussed the markers to look at to assess your iron status.

Iron deficiency is one of the most prevalent nutrient deficiencies I see in women of reproductive age.

To improve iron levels it is important to address the underlying causes, which might be due to heavy me**es, digestive malabsorption or a lack of dietary co-factors, including vitamins A, C and B.

Many retail supplements such as Ferrograd C and Maltofer cause gastric issues which often causes women to stop taking them.

If you are looking for support for your energy, including with your iron levels, please reach out.

What's on your plate this winter?

As the cooler months settle in, the body quietly shifts what it wants... warm, cooked food over cold salads, which is easier on digestion and helps conserve your energy. Earlier nights too, which suits winter beautifully, particularly in menopause when sleep so often becomes fragmented.

One of the simplest changes I suggest to clients is to start the day with protein rather than something sweet. It gives you steady, nourishing energy through the morning, helps keep your blood sugar balanced, and often softens those evening cravings and energy dips.

It's why one of my favourite winter breakfasts is a bowl of soup. This one is protein-rich and warming, and the chicken brings naturally occurring compounds like carnosine, known for its antioxidant activity. A little quinoa or rice makes it a proper, grounding start to the day.

🌿 Herb Garden Chicken Soup

Ingredients

1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
2 large organic chicken breasts
3 cups bone or vegetable broth
1 leek
1 large carrot
2 celery stalks
1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
Fresh parsley (stems finely chopped for the stock, leaves for the end)
1 lemon
Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Cut the chicken breasts into slices or dice.
Chop the onion, leek, carrot, celery and parsley stems. Heat a heavy pan and sauté the onion, garlic, leek and ginger until soft and aromatic. Add the vegetables and sauté for 5 minutes.
Add the broth and bring to a simmer. Add the chicken and half the chopped parsley leaves, and cook until the chicken is tender. Season with salt and pepper.

Serve sprinkled with fresh parsley and finely grated lemon zest, with lemon wedges on the side. Add a quarter cup of cooked rice or quinoa to your bowl before ladling over the hot soup.

Save this one for a cold evening, or try it as a nourishing start to your day. I'd love to hear how you go. 🌿

Is your fatigue (and brain fog) during perimenopause due to low iron?

In peri-menopause, it is not uncommon for me**es to progressively become heavy (although irregular) which contributes to the loss of red blood cells, and iron.

Iron deficiency symptoms include fatigue, brain fog, irritability, palpitations and hair loss, some of these symptoms overlap with perimenopause. It is estimated that

30-60% of women in peri-menopause experience iron deficiency and if it isn't identified it can progress to anaemia.

Often an approach is needed which addresses hormone imbalances that contribute to heavy periods and iron deficiency.

If you need support managing your iron levels, please get in touch. I'd love to help.
