Today’s Women’s Health Week theme is TO MOVE. 🚶‍♀️

Movement doesn’t have to mean a gym membership, intense workout or an hour you simply don’t have.

A walk around the block, stretching while dinner cooks, dancing with the kids or taking the stairs all count. Choose something that feels manageable for your body and your life.

If pain, bladder leakage, pelvic floor concerns, breathlessness or fatigue are preventing you from being active, you don’t have to simply put up with it. Your GP can help identify the cause and discuss the support available.

Start small. Do it anyway. 💗

It’s Women’s Health Week! 🌸

Today’s theme is TO FUEL.

Eating well doesn’t need to involve a complete diet overhaul. Small, achievable choices can make a meaningful difference adding some vegetables to dinner, drinking another glass of water or having breakfast instead of running on coffee.

Women’s nutritional needs can also change during pregnancy, breastfeeding, perimenopause, menopause and as we age.

If you’re experiencing ongoing fatigue, changes in appetite, digestive concerns or you’re unsure whether you’re getting what your body needs, speak with your GP.

Small steps still count. Do it anyway. 💗

It’s DonateLife Week 💗

Registering as an organ and tissue donor takes around one minute—but don’t forget the equally important next step: tell your family that you want to be a donor.

You can check or update your registration through the official DonateLife website.

Register. Tell your family. Encourage the conversation.

DonateLife Week runs from 26 July to 2 August 2026. DonateLife

Flu is still circulating in our community, and it’s not too late to protect yourself.

The flu vaccine can help reduce your risk of becoming seriously unwell and is especially important for young children, older adults, pregnant women and people with certain medical conditions.

Appointments are still available at our practice.

Book online or contact our reception team to arrange your flu vaccination.

Please speak with your GP or nurse if you are unsure whether the flu vaccine is suitable for you.

13/04/2026

We now have Flu vaccinations (Fluvax) available for all patients aged 6 months and over.
With over 25,000 flu cases already reported in Australia this year, it’s a timely reminder to protect yourself and your family ahead of the peak season.
📅 Appointments are now open – please call reception or book online to secure your spot.
COVID booster vaccinations are also available.

📣 Practice Update for Our Patients
We would like to let our community know that Dr Bhavna Maindiratta has commenced her maternity leave. We wish her all the very best during this special time and look forward to welcoming her back in the future. 💐
During Dr Bhavna’s leave, we are pleased to introduce Dr Luke Franceschini, who will be joining us as a locum GP.
Dr Luke is a Specialist GP and GP Obstetrician, and he provides obstetric delivery services at Queanbeyan Hospital. He brings a wealth of experience and is committed to providing high-quality, patient-centred care to our community.
Dr Luke will initially be consulting on alternate Friday mornings.
We are confident our patients will be in excellent hands during this time.
If you would like to book an appointment with Dr Luke, please contact our reception team.

We would like to inform our patients that after six years of dedicated service to the Googong community, Dr. Yemisi is leaving our practice (last day Friday 27 March).

Dr. Yemisi has provided compassionate and high-quality care to many patients and families during her time with us, and she will be greatly missed by both our team and the community.

She will be moving closer to home at Molonglo Valley Medical Centre in Coombs, ACT, where she will continue to care for patients.

If patients wish to continue seeing Dr. Yemisi for their care, please contact our reception team and we will be happy to arrange for a copy of your medical record to be transferred to her new practice.

Patients who prefer to remain with our clinic are welcome to book with one of our other doctors, and our reception team will be happy to assist with arranging ongoing care.

We sincerely thank Dr. Yemisi for her contribution to the health and wellbeing of our community and wish her every success in this next chapter.

Hello Googong families 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦,

It’s hard to believe it’s almost been a month since the kids headed back to school 🏫! As we settle into our routines, here are a few health tips to keep our little ones thriving:

• Hand Hygiene 👐: Encourage regular handwashing to fend off germs – especially after play and before meals.
• Nutritious Meals 🍎: A balanced diet fuels busy school days. Sneak in extra fruits and veggies where you can!
• Hydration 💧: With the summer warmth still on, remind your kids to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
• Sleep Routine 😴: A consistent sleep schedule helps with energy levels and overall well-being.
• Stay Active 🤸: Whether it’s a family walk or a fun play session, regular exercise is key.
• Watch for Signs 🔍: If your child isn’t feeling well or shows unusual symptoms, it might be best to get them checked by a GP.

Our team at Googong Family Practice is here to support you and your family. Let’s work together to ensure a healthy, happy school year! 🌟

🎆 Happy New Year from Googong Family Practice! 🎆

As we get ready to ring in 2025, we’re sending our best wishes to all our wonderful patients and their families for a year filled with health, happiness, and success! 💙 Thank you for letting us be a part of your journey – we’re excited to continue caring for you and your loved ones in the year ahead.

For those planning to celebrate with a toast or two, here are some proactive tips to help avoid a hangover:
🥘 Eat before you drink: A hearty meal with healthy fats, protein, and carbs slows alcohol absorption.
💧 Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate: Drink water throughout the day and alternate with water while drinking alcohol.
🍷 Choose wisely: Clear spirits like vodka or gin tend to cause fewer hangover symptoms than darker drinks like wh***ey or red w**e.
🐢 Pace yourself: Sip slowly and set a reasonable limit to give your body time to process the alcohol.

The best hangover cure is prevention, so celebrate responsibly and take care of yourself! 🥂

Here’s to a happy and healthy 2025 – we can’t wait to see you in the new year! 🎉

With warm regards,
The Googong Family Practice Team
