A bit of a "nerd" moment. We love high quality research articles to guide our practice and this one asks all the right questions at the right times.
Most knee injuries do not need surgery, but this shines a light on the ones least likely to heal on their own. Lateral meniscus injuries can heal within the first few months but medial meniscus are fair less likely.

At Border Physio, we're committed to continually learning and refining our skills so we can provide the highest standard of care for our community.

Another weekend and another course. This three day course has been so enlightening. Three high level physiotherapist showed the three different ways they would assess, theorise and treat neck-shoulder pain. It's so great to be challenged in practice and come away with more techniques to help clients in need.

Such a great review that not every exercise for your hips is the same. You might recognise some of these exercises from your rehab list!

πŸ”₯ Which glute exercise packs the biggest punch?

πŸ‘ Collings et al. (2023) set out to determine gluteal muscle forces across different exercises.

πŸ“Š The authors ranked the exercises into different tiers based on the estimated muscle forces.

πŸ†οΈ The single leg RDL with resistance was the only exercise to be ranked a Tier 1 exercise in all three muscle groups.

πŸ₯‡ Meanwhile, the body weight side plank was ranked as a Tier 1 exercise for the gluteus minimus and medius.

πŸ’‘ For rehabilitation purposes, we may want to consider utilizing lower tier exercises and/or reducing load for those that are more load compromised, and higher tier exercises for those that are able to tolerate higher muscle forces.

🦿🦿14 weeks post syndesmosis surgery update

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈReturn to running/long walks feels amazing, hard and a bit tender the next day

My runs have been smaller than what many people expect when I say I've been for a run

Run 1: 4 x 100m
Run 2: 3 x 250m, 2 x 100m
- I did plan for 4 x 250m, but the last one made my calf muscle fatigue a bit too quick, so I split it in two.
Run 3: plan is to achieve 4 x 250m

πŸ€”πŸ€”What's sore post run? My muscles, everywhere in my legs. I have been doing weights training, balance training, skipping and calf raises to improve my leg strength but nothing compares to the forces of running.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Here is your daily physio reminder, slow progressive return to exercise works. Set goals for things you love doing and make a plan.
