🤧 Should you run when you’re sick?
The cold and flu season feels like it has hit Goulburn extra hard this year! Missing a few training sessions can feel frustrating, especially when you’ve been building towards a goal. But trying to “push through” illness can often delay your recovery and keep you out for even longer.
A good rule of thumb is to let your symptoms guide your decision.
If you have a fever, significant fatigue, chest symptoms or shortness of breath, it’s time to prioritise rest.
If your symptoms are mild and limited to your nose or throat, and you otherwise feel well, a light, easy run may be appropriate. Keep it short, monitor how you feel, and don’t be afraid to stop if your body tells you to.
When you’re ready to return:
🏃 Start with an easy session.
📉 Reduce both your pace and your distance.
⏱️ Pay attention to how you feel during the run and over the next 24 hours before progressing.
Remember: fitness is built over months - not lost in a few days. Giving your body time to recover now is often the fastest way back to consistent training.
