Over the past few months I’ve had the opportunity to work with senior students at Brisbane Grammar School (BGS) and Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie), exploring mindfulness in performance settings.
One thing I’ve found is that these conversations often become more relevant to students when mindfulness is framed around performance and functioning under pressure — not just wellbeing in isolation.
Many students are already highly motivated to improve concentration, study effectiveness and their ability to perform in high-pressure environments.
Under pressure, attention can quickly shift towards mistakes, future outcomes, comparison, or concerns about performance.
That attentional drift matters, because where attention goes can influence how we think, feel and perform.
