Ever wondered how you expand your child's language?

💬 Expand, don't test!

When your child says "car", instead of asking them to repeat or quizzing them, build on what they've already said.

🚗 Child: "Car."
🗣️ Adult: "Red car!"
🏎️ "Fast car!"
✨ "The fast red car is driving!"
💨 "The fast red car is driving down the road!"

By adding just one or two words to what your child says, you're modelling richer language in a natural, pressure-free way.

This helps children learn:
🌱 New vocabulary
🧩 Longer sentence structures
💭 Descriptive words
💬 How words fit together in conversation

Remember: your child doesn't need to repeat after you. They're learning every time they hear language modelled in meaningful, everyday moments

One of the most effective ways to support language development is modelling.

Instead of asking a child to repeat words or testing them with prompts like "Say ball," simply model the language you want them to hear.

If they're playing with a ball, you might say:
🟢 "Ball."
🟢 "Big ball."
🟢 "Red ball."
🟢 "Roll ball."

This gives them clear, meaningful examples of language without pressure. Children learn best when they hear words used naturally during play and everyday interactions.

Remember: the goal isn't to make them say the word—it's to provide lots of opportunities for them to hear and understand it first. Language grows through consistent, responsive modelling 🗨
