Quality Practice Accreditation

Recently, QPA GP Surveyor, Dr Melinda Griffiths reflected on her experience across nursing, general practice, practice ownership and surveying as she brings a unique perspective to both her work as an accreditation surveyor and to the day-to-day realities of practice life.

One misconception is the belief that accreditation is simply a pass or fail. "Most issues are manageable and there is support available." Dr Griffiths works carefully to remove fear that assessors are there to catch practices out. "My job is not to nitpick. It is to recognise the work they are doing, help them understand the standards and explain why those standards matter. That explanation is often where the most useful conversations happen."

Dr Griffiths reflections also serve as a useful reminder that, in many cases, practices are doing better than they perhaps give themselves credit for. "Many practices have strong communication systems, useful meetings, thoughtful patient reminders and well developed treatment room processes already in place. Some also show remarkable innovations."

Last week, QPA Founder and Managing Director, Dr Paul Mara was thrilled to speak at a special training and networking event hosted by the Brisbane North PHN. Dr Mara discussed how practices can build greater business advantage with the implementation of the 6th edition Standards.

The event was a great success with more than 50 GP's, Practice Managers and support staff from across the Brisbane North region attending the event.

Today is World Hand Hygiene Day!

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care's (ACSQHC) theme for WHHD 2026 is 'Action saves lives - Safer care starts with clean hands'.

The Commission has released new resources to support health services take action, highlighting the importance of sharing knowledge about hand hygiene to reduce the spread of harmful germs, and to keep patients and healthcare workers safer.

Accreditation works best when quality improvement becomes part of everyday practice life. That is why QPA runs Keeping Up with Quality, a series of short practical workshops designed to help practices stay confident with the RACGP Standards.

Each 30 minute session focuses on a key topic such as non-conformities, infection control, triage and business continuity. Practices also receive practical tools and resources such as checklists, worksheets and templates to take straight back into the practice.

Our next Keeping Up with Quality workshop set begins 24th March 2026. QPA practices can register through the Connect portal.

Recently we invited some of our amazing QPA practices to share how they deliver quality and excellence within their practice and to their community.
