I was fortunate to have the beautiful birth I wanted... then I caught a cold, sneezed, and in one second, my life changed forever.

I was diagnosed with a bilateral avulsion as well as a grade 1 urethrocele and a grade 2 rectocele three weeks after the birth of my son.

Prior to pregnancy, I'd been a competitive runner. Post-birth, I couldn't walk without feeling like something was hanging out of me, and running caused me to wet myself.

I saw a women's health physio straight away, but it became obvious that I couldn't tolerate a pessary, it was too painful.

My mental health suffered enormously. I was suicidal for long periods of time and devastated that I couldn't be the mum I'd always envisaged myself being.

One day, my husband said to me, "Ok, you can't run, but can you get strong instead?"

That changed my approach. I took strength and conditioning seriously and began to slowly build up my running. I hated how slowly I had to run but I kept at it because I couldn't bear to stop.

Two years postpartum, I ran my first race. Three years postpartum, I ran a marathon and came 5th while still breastfeeding.

I know I'm immensely lucky with my story, I so badly want to share it with any women who feel how I felt three years ago.

Life, and running, are different for me now. I still have to take a laxative before big races. I still leak badly during some races. I had to make two loo stops during my marathon and I'm a religious user of bodyglide.

THANK YOU to Morwenna for sharing so generously, and for being such a beacon of hope on Levator Avulsion Awareness Day đź’™

🌿 I've been a little quiet lately!

Firstly, I'd like to apologise to anyone who has been trying to book in over the past few weeks. Family commitments have meant I've had to step away from consulting more than usual, and I appreciate your patience and understanding.

To better balance work and family life, I will be changing my Gunnedah clinic day from Monday to Friday.

The good news is that bookings are now open and I'm looking forward to being back and helping more of our local community with their pelvic health needs. Appointments are now available from the 31st July at https://northwestpelvichealth.com.au

Whether you're seeking support for bladder or bowel symptoms, prolapse, pelvic pain, pregnancy and postnatal concerns, menopause, or men's pelvic health, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you again for your patience and support. I can't wait to see you soon. đź’š

C-sections are not the “easy way out.”
They are major abdominal surgery.

Layers of skin, fat, muscle, and uterus are cut open to bring a baby into the world. Your organs are literally moved to safely deliver your baby. Then you’re stitched back together… and handed a newborn to care for while healing from surgery.

No driving.
No lifting.
Pain when you laugh, cough, or even sit up.
Trying to care for a tiny human while your body heals from something that would normally require weeks of rest.

There is nothing easy about that.

Whether your C-section was planned or an emergency, whether it saved your life, your baby’s life, or both, it was brave.

C-section moms didn’t take the easy way out.
They took the safe way out for their baby.

Even if you had a "normal" vaginal birth or a cesearean section - pelvic health physiotherapy can help.

The pelvic floor won't discriminate based on birth outcomes.

If you are experiencing symptoms of incontinence or pain and are worried about how your body feels after birth, reach out.

We have a free telehealth service for women+ who are under 24 months postpartum and needing support.
