💙 Happy World Physiotherapy Day!

Today we're recognising the incredible work physiotherapists do in helping people regain strength, confidence and independence.

Whether it's recovering from an injury, managing a neurological condition, improving mobility or working towards everyday goals, physiotherapists play an important role in helping people get back to doing the things that matter most.

At Focus on Function, we know the best outcomes come from working together. Physiotherapists are an important part of the multidisciplinary teams we collaborate with, and today we'd like to say thank you for the care, expertise and encouragement they provide every day.

Happy World Physiotherapy Day to all the physios making a difference in our communities. 💙

Out and about today for a home visit with the team - catching up on-site before heading in.

This is the part of the job people don't always see: the conversations that happen on the front lawn before we even walk through the door. Getting aligned on what matters for the day and how we can make it as smooth as possible for the person we're there to see.

Grateful for a good team to do this work with. 🏡

Sometimes the best professional development happens sitting around the same table.

A little behind-the-scenes look at our Case Manager, Occupational Therapist and Director working together.

Co-working gives us the opportunity to ask questions, share clinical knowledge, problem-solve and learn from each other as things come up.

For our team, this has three really important benefits:

• better and more efficient service delivery
• ongoing professional development and mentoring
• better outcomes for the people we support

When you're working with complex and catastrophic injuries, collaboration isn't something that just happens at a case conference. Sometimes it's being able to turn to the person beside you and say, "What do you think about this?"

We are continuing to look at how we can create more opportunities for our team to work alongside each other across Tamworth, Gunnedah and Armidale.

It's Speech Pathology Week, and we couldn't think of a better time to share some exciting news — Focus on Function has officially welcomed Kate, our first Speech Pathologist, to the team!

Communication is a human right. It's how people express choice, share what matters most to them, and take part in decisions about their own lives — and that's something we hold at the centre of everything we do. Kate's role means we can now support that directly, alongside safe swallowing support that helps people eat, drink and live well in their own community.

This is exactly in line with what we've always worked towards — keeping people with injuries, disabilities and illnesses well and supported at home, not in hospital or care settings they don't need to be in. Speech Pathology now sits alongside our Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Dietetics, Physiotherapy and Case Management services, all working as one team.

Welcome, Kate. We're proud to have you on board.

Working easily together to get great outcomes for our participants.

A little behind the scenes at Focus on Function ☕🐾

Livvie taking the team's coffee orders, with a special furry visitor keeping an eye on things in the office.

A lot of the work that leads to significant outcomes for the people we support happens behind the scenes.

Phone calls, follow-ups, reports, problem-solving, conversations with funding bodies and providers, chasing equipment, coordinating services and working out what needs to happen next.

It isn't always the work that gets photographed, but it can make a very real difference for someone following a significant injury.

And some days, good coffee is required… and a visit from a team member's fur baby doesn't hurt either!

We’re bringing some great professional development to Tamworth!

Focus on Function is pleased to be co-hosting the Sexuality and Physical Disability Workshop, presented by Candice Care-Unger.

Sexuality is an important part of life, health and wellbeing following physical disability, but it can also be an area that health professionals aren’t always confident raising or addressing.

This practical workshop will help clinicians build confidence, develop practical strategies and better understand how we can support conversations about sexuality as part of rehabilitation and everyday clinical practice.

📅 Thursday 17 September 2026
⏰ 10.00 am – 3.00 pm
📍 Tamworth Community Event Centre
🥗 Lunch and refreshments included

We’re really passionate about bringing quality education and professional development opportunities to regional NSW, and we’d love to see plenty of our local and regional health professionals there.

Suitable for OTs, physios, speech pathologists, nurses, doctors and other professionals working across rehabilitation, disability and complex injury.

Places are limited, so make sure you register if you’d like to join us.

A little snapshot from our recent Focus on Function team culture day… although we were definitely a bit slack on the photos! 📸

It was a shortened team day this time, but there was plenty to talk about.

A big focus was how we continue to improve our service delivery, with a pretty simple goal — helping more people across our regional communities, and doing it well.

We also spent time talking about AI and how we can use it safely and responsibly. For us, it is about finding practical ways to reduce administration and improve efficiency, while keeping clinical judgement and people at the centre of what we do.

The strongest theme throughout the day was collaboration.

Our team now brings together:

• Occupational Therapy
• Physiotherapy
• Speech Pathology
• Nursing
• Dietetics
• Case Management

Having different disciplines working alongside each other is particularly valuable when supporting people with complex and catastrophic injuries. We can share ideas, problem-solve together and make sure actions don't just sit on a list — they actually get done.

There is always more we can improve, but days like this give us the opportunity to stop, share ideas and make sure we're heading in the same direction.
