Enhancing lives of people with injury, illness & disability in rural NSW. We have sites in Armidale, Tamworth and Gunnedah.

At Focus On Function, we provide high quality and participant centered Occupational Therapy, Dietitian and Case Management services to adults with a wide range of disabilities and medical conditions. We generally assess participants in their own home to focus on how their environment could be altered to enhance participation. We aim to work alongside the participant, with the participant driving the direction of the services. We provide these services under the following funding bodies:
- iCare lifetime care and workers care
- NDIS (plan or self managed)
- Compulosry Third Party
- Workers Compensation

💙 Wrapping up OT Week with a big thank you!

Relationships matter!

This week, Louise has been in Sydney catching up with healthcare providers, strengthening relationships and learning more about the services available to support our participants.

Why do we invest time in this?

Because strong relationships between providers make a real difference!

When we know each other, understand each other's services and work together, we can:

🏡 Help people get home from hospital sooner.

💚 Support people to stay well and safely at home.

🤝 Find solutions to complex challenges.

🌏 Improve access to specialist services for our regional communities.

At Focus on Function, we know we can't do everything ourselves. And that's why collaboration is so important.

It's not just about who you know. It's about how we work together to achieve better outcomes for the people we support.

💡 Why does participation matter?

Because everyday activities are about so much more than simply getting things done.

Being able to prepare a meal, spend time with friends, enjoy a hobby or participate in community activities can make a huge difference to someone's independence, confidence and wellbeing.

For people living with complex injuries or neurological conditions, these activities can sometimes come with additional challenges.

That's where Occupational Therapists come in!

Our OTs help people find practical ways to overcome barriers, adapt their environments and continue participating in the activities that are meaningful to them.

Because participation isn't just about what we do, it's about being able to live life in a way that matters to us. 💙

💙 OT Week 2026: Participation Matters!

Ever wondered what goes into helping someone live more independently?

Sometimes it's finding the right wheelchair or shower commode. Other times, it's planning home modifications to make everyday spaces safer and more accessible.

Our Occupational Therapists do so much work behind the scenes, from assessments and equipment recommendations to detailed home modification plans, all with the goal of helping people participate in the activities that matter most to them.

We've put together a little collection of some of the work our OT team has been involved in, giving you a glimpse into the practical side of occupational therapy!

Because sometimes, the right equipment or a few changes to someone's environment can make a world of difference. 💙

We're based across Gunnedah, Tamworth and Armidale, and these aren't just places we travel to for appointments. They're our homes.

Why do we invest time in understanding funding schemes and their requirements? 🤔

Because understanding the system is an important part of delivering great care!

At Focus on Function, we invest considerable time in keeping our team informed about the different funding schemes we work within, including icare Lifetime Care, Workers Care, CTP and Workers Compensation.

And there's a good reason for this!

Understanding scheme guidelines, processes and requirements helps us to:

✅ Navigate funding processes more effectively

✅ Reduce unnecessary delays in accessing services and equipment

✅ Prepare clear, well-supported recommendations

✅ Make informed, cost-effective decisions

✅ Support participants and families to better understand their options

✅ Work collaboratively with funding bodies and other providers

Most importantly, it allows us to spend less time navigating avoidable barriers and more time focusing on what really matters — achieving better outcomes for our participants.

Living in regional NSW can already present challenges when accessing specialist healthcare. We want to ensure that navigating funding arrangements doesn't create additional unnecessary barriers.

For us, understanding the schemes is part of providing quality care.

Better together! 🤝

At Focus on Function, we have always valued multidisciplinary collaboration. One way we're putting this into practice is through co-consulting, where two clinicians from different disciplines attend a joint visit with a participant.

Why do we do this?

✔️ Better problem-solving by bringing different clinical perspectives together

✔️ Quicker identification of practical solutions

✔️ More coordinated and consistent recommendations

✔️ Cost-effective care by reducing duplication and unnecessary delays

✔️ Most importantly, better outcomes for our participants!

When supporting people with complex and catastrophic injuries, challenges rarely fit neatly within one clinical discipline.

By working together, we can look at the bigger picture, make decisions collaboratively and develop solutions that consider the participant's individual needs and goals.

Two clinicians attending one appointment might sound more expensive, but when done for the right reasons, it can be a much more efficient and effective way to deliver care.

It's not about providing more services. It's about providing the right services, in the right way, to achieve the best possible outcomes.
