๐Ÿ’œ So excited to be heading over to Western Australia this week to connect with others passionate about Exercise Oncology โ€” and to chat about this incredible new research from ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ Both weights AND HIIT offer major health benefits for cancer survivors!
The latest ECU study found that:
โœจ Both resistance training and HIIT trigger the release of myokines โ€” special proteins that can help suppress cancer cell growth.
โœจ After just 12 weeks, participantsโ€™ blood samples showed a 22โ€“25% reduction in cancer cell growth in the lab.
โœจ Strength training built muscle and strength ๐Ÿ’ช while HIIT boosted fitness and reduced fat mass ๐Ÿซ€ โ€” showing both are powerful tools for survivorship.

As an Exercise Physiologist in Sydney working with people affected by cancer every day, this research fires me up! ๐Ÿ”ฅ
It reinforces what we see in clinic: exercise isnโ€™t just safe โ€” itโ€™s medicine.

๐ŸŒฟ Benefits include:
โœ… Reduced fatigue & anxiety
โœ… Improved strength, fitness & body composition
โœ… Better immune function
โœ… Lower inflammation
โœ… Reduced recurrence & mortality risk (up to 40%)

I canโ€™t wait to bring these insights back to Sydney โ€” and share ideas with clinicians, researchers, and survivors in WA.

Letโ€™s keep spreading the message: Movement is medicine. ๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’œ
Peak Health

New research has found that both resistance training and high intensity interval training (HIIT) produced sufficient levels of myokines to help in the fight against cancer.

For many with EDS/HSD, the nervous system is deeply affected. Beyond joint pain and hypermobility, serious neurological issues can develop for some which are often misunderstood or misdiagnosed:
โ€ข Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) Leaks โ€“ causing positional headaches, brain fog, and neck pain.
โ€ข Chiari Malformations โ€“ a group of disorders where brain tissue herniates into the spinal canal (>5mm), leading to pressure, dizziness, and coordination issues.
โ€ข Craniocervical Instability (CCI) โ€“ unstable joints the the neck/spine can compress the brainstem, causing a range of debilitating symptoms this can include AAI and segmental spinal instabilities
โ€ข Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) โ€“ increased pressure in the skull without a clear cause, leading to vision problems and chronic headaches
โ€ข Tethered Cord Syndrome โ€“ spinal cord tension can affect bladder, mobility, and cause leg weakness. most cases related to EDS are โ€œoccultโ€.
โ€ข Kyphosis โ€“ a combination of abnormal spinal curvature and rounding, can occur in certain types of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, leading to chronic pain, respiratory issues, and reduced mobility.
โ€ข Tarlov Cysts โ€“ fluid-filled sacs along nerve rootsโ€”can occur in individuals with EDS/HSD and may contribute to pain and nerve-related symptoms.
