Cameron is a 4th year Physiotherapy student from The University of Newcastle and is completing a 5-week placement with us. He is eager to learn about all aspects of physiotherapy care and will have the opportunity to be involved in treating a varied caseload of musculoskeletal, neurological and vestibular patients alongside our Physiotherapist Joe.

A single leg hip thrust is great for building gluteal strength and hip stability, this exercise can be adapted for all ages and activity levels. Here is how-to perform a basic single leg hip thrust.

1. Sit on the floor with your back against a sturdy bench (mid-back/shoulder blades on the bench).
2. Walk your feet out, bend one knee, placing the foot flat on the floor (this is your working leg).
3. Straighten the other leg out in front of you or keep it slightly bent, lifted off the floor.
4. Tuck your pelvis slightly, engage your abs, and keep your chin tucked to maintain a neutral spine.
5. Drive through the heel of your planted foot, pushing your hips upward.
6. Continue lifting until your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees.
7. Pause briefly at the top, maintaining tension in the glute.
8. Slowly lower your hips back down with control.
9. Repeat for reps on one side, then switch legs.

Recent research has shown kids who have had cochlear implants, head injuries and even attentional deficits can have issues with their inner ear function. This can have great impacts on their balance, ability to play and participate in activities. The associated dizziness is not very pleasant either!
