🌸 YYMS Women’s Camp 2026 – Caroline Pool 🌸

What an incredible two days of connection, healing, laughter, culture and wellbeing at our YYMS Women’s Camp 2026 held at the beautiful Caroline Pool.

This year, we were overwhelmed by the support from our community, with 71 women registered to attend. On Day 1, we welcomed 54 women (excluding children), and on Day 2, 57 women joined us for another meaningful day together.

Throughout the camp, women had the opportunity to participate in a range of activities designed to nurture wellbeing, strengthen cultural connections and create space for self-care, including:

✨ Haircuts
✨ Massage therapy
✨ Facial and body treatments
✨ Bush medicine sessions
✨ Art therapy
✨ Cultural cook-ups
✨ Yarning around the fire

More importantly, this camp created a safe and welcoming space where women could come together to share stories, experiences, knowledge and laughter. Around the campfire, during activities and over shared meals, we built connections, supported one another, and created memories that will stay with us long after the camp ended.

The strength, resilience and generosity shown by every woman who attended made this camp truly special. Seeing women connect across generations, share their journeys and celebrate culture together was a powerful reminder of the importance of community and belonging.

A heartfelt thank you to all the women who took the time to attend, participate and contribute to making this camp such a success. Your presence, stories, smiles and willingness to connect are what brought this gathering to life.

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to our facilitators, service providers, Elders, staff, volunteers, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to make the camp possible. Your dedication, care and support helped create a meaningful experience for all involved.

💜 Thank you for showing up, supporting one another, sharing your stories and making YYMS Women’s Camp 2026 a beautiful celebration of wellbeing, culture, connection and community.

We look forward to seeing you all again next year. Until then, keep connected, keep strong and keep looking after one another.

💜🌿✨

Today is Mabo Day.

On 3 June 1992, the High Court of Australia overturned the myth of terra nullius, recognising the enduring connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country.

Driven by the determination of Eddie Koiki Mabo and the Meriam people, this landmark decision changed the course of Australian history and paved the way for Native Title.

At NACCHO, we recognise that connection to Country, culture and community are fundamental to the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The legacy of Mabo continues to strengthen the fight for self-determination, justice and equity, values that remain at the heart of the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector.

Today, we honour Eddie Mabo’s legacy 💙💚🤍

This week, our Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) program celebrated World No To***co Week with some fantastic activities here in Halls Creek!

We delivered 4 engaging education sessions with students at Halls Creek District High School, helping raise awareness about the impacts of smoking and va**ng, and empowering young people to make healthy choices.

We wrapped up the week with a colourful World No To***co Day Colour Run 🌈🏃‍♀️

🤎💛❤️ This is National Reconciliation Week ❤️💛🤎

Each year, National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) provides an opportunity for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to reflect on how we can contribute to reconciliation in our everyday lives.

The dates hold deep significance in Australia's history. The week begins on 27 May, marking the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum, when Australians voted overwhelmingly to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the national census. It concludes on 3 June, commemorating the historic Mabo decision, which recognised the land rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and overturned the myth of terra nullius.

As an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service, we know that reconciliation is more than a word, it is about respect, truth-telling, understanding and working together to create a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can thrive. It means recognising the strength, resilience and enduring cultures of the world's oldest living cultures, while acknowledging the impacts of past and ongoing injustices.

For our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, this week is a time to celebrate culture, connection to Country and the achievements of our people. For our non-Indigenous community members, it is an opportunity to listen, learn and walk alongside us in the spirit of respect and partnership.

Reconciliation belongs to all of us. Together, we can build stronger relationships, stronger communities and a healthier future for generations to come.

🖤💛❤️ National Sorry Day – 26 May ❤️💛🖤

Today, we acknowledge National Sorry Day and honour the strength, resilience and healing journeys of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples affected by the policies of forced child removal, now known as the Stolen Generations.

National Sorry Day is a time to reflect on a painful chapter in Australia's history and to recognise the ongoing impacts these policies have had on individuals, families and communities. It is also a time to listen to the stories of survivors, acknowledge the truth of our shared history and support the process of healing and reconciliation.
For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, the effects of separation from family, culture, language and Country continue to be felt across generations. Today, we pay our respects to Stolen Generations survivors, their families and those who never made it home.

We recognise that healing is strengthened through connection to family, culture, community and Country. We remain committed to supporting the social, emotional and cultural wellbeing of our communities and creating safe spaces where culture is respected, celebrated and protected.

On this National Sorry Day, we invite families and community members to join us at the Aged Care Facility to spend time with our Elders, listen to their stories, share a yarn and honour the knowledge, strength and experiences they carry. Taking the time to connect with and support our old people is an important way we can show respect, strengthen community bonds and continue the journey of healing together.

Lunch will be provided, along with live entertainment, creating an opportunity for our community to come together in reflection, connection and celebration of culture.

On this National Sorry Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect, learn and stand together in the spirit of truth, healing and reconciliation.
