✨ BEFORE ➡️ 6 MONTHS ➡️ 12 MONTHS ✨

If you’ve ever been told that surgery is your only option for a painful curved toenail, this transformation may surprise you.

This patient presented with a severely curved (involuted) toenail that was causing the nail edges to curl deeply towards the skin.

Nails like this can become incredibly painful, making everyday activities such as walking, exercising or even wearing shoes uncomfortable.

Rather than removing part or all of the nail, we chose a custom nail bracing approach.

Using a specially selected brace designed specifically for this patient’s nail shape and thickness, gentle continuous tension was applied to gradually encourage the nail to flatten as it grew.

📸 The results speak for themselves:

➡️ Before: A tightly curved nail causing pressure and discomfort.

➡️ 6 months: The nail had already begun to flatten, reducing pressure on the skin.

➡️ 12 months: A significantly flatter, healthier nail with improved comfort, all while preserving the natural nail.

Custom nail bracing uses a brace specifically for your nail’s shape and thickness, applying gentle tension to encourage the nail to grow into a healthier position over time.

✔️ Non-surgical
✔️ Virtually painless to apply
✔️ Preserves your natural nail
✔️ Suitable for many curved and involuted nails

Not every nail is suitable for bracing, so a professional assessment is essential. However, for many people, it offers an effective alternative to surgery.

👣 If you’re struggling with painful curved or involuted toenails, book an assessment to see if custom nail bracing could be the right solution for you.

This Sunday, our team took some time to slow down, reconnect, and recharge together. 💚

Every couple of months, we make it a priority to get together outside of work and do something that fills our cups. This time, we enjoyed a beautiful Qigong class taken by our very own team memeber Dr Lea Zarnowski (TCM)? followed by a deeply relaxing sound bowl meditation with Bella.

Afterwards, we gathered in a circle to share homemade baked treats, fresh fruit, and calming tea while enjoying each other’s company.

These moments remind us how important it is to look after ourselves and each other. Taking time to connect, laugh, relax, and recharge helps us return to what we do feeling refreshed and supported.

We’re already looking forward to our next team social. A big thank you to Natalie for making this happen 💕

⚽ Case Spotlight: Heel Pain in a 30-Year-Old Soccer Player

A 30-year-old soccer player presented with persistent left heel pain that was limiting his performance and recovery.

On assessment, the key finding wasn’t just the painful heel, it was the subtle asymmetries contributing to the problem. His left calf demonstrated reduced strength compared to the right, affecting how he generated force during propulsion.

We discussed the difference between low gear and high gear propulsion during gait. Efficient propulsion relies on loading through the big toe, which activates the windlass mechanism, a critical function that tensions the plantar fascia, supports the arch, and creates a stable lever for push-off.

Treatment focused on addressing both symptoms and underlying biomechanics:

✅ Calf strengthening program, always starting and finishing on the weaker left side to improve symmetry and force production.

✅ Custom orthotics designed to support the arch and encourage more effective high gear propulsion through the first ray and big toe.

✅ Laser therapy to help reduce inflammation and support tissue healing.

✅ Ankle joint mobilisation to restore normal ankle range of motion.

✅ Instrument-assisted soft tissue release to the calf complex to improve tissue quality and reduce restrictions.

By combining strength, mobility, tissue treatment, and biomechanical correction, we aim to restore efficient movement patterns and reduce excessive loading through the heel.

Sometimes the biggest clues aren’t where the pain is it’s the subtle differences elsewhere in the kinetic chain that tell the real story.

💃 Happy feet = happy kids! 🦶

There’s nothing better than seeing little ones running, jumping, dancing, and exploring the world with confidence.

As parents, it’s easy to assume children will tell us when something is wrong with their feet or legs, but many foot and lower limb issues develop gradually and can impact comfort, participation in sport, balance, and even confidence.

At Well Heeled Podiatry, we help children of all ages with:
👣 Flat feet and foot posture concerns
👣 Growing pains
👣 Toe walking
👣 In-toeing and out-toeing gait patterns
👣 Heel pain (Sever’s disease)
👣 Sports injuries
👣 Coordination and balance concerns
👣 Ingrown toenails and nail issues
👣 Warts and skin conditions
👣 Footwear advice and fitting guidance

Many childhood concerns can be managed more effectively when identified early, helping kids stay active, comfortable, and doing what they love.

Because every child deserves to move, play, dance, and grow with healthy feet. ❤️

Did you know one leg can actually be longer than the other? 👟📏

Leg length discrepancies are more common than people think and a small difference is actually considered normal. Variations of around 0.5 cm are commonly seen and usually don’t cause major issues.

But when the difference becomes more significant and can be clinically observed affecting posture and movement it should be properly assessed to determine whether correction may help.

Why? Because the body will often compensate to “even things out,” which can place extra stress on the:
• Feet & ankles
• Knees
• Hips
• Pelvis
• Lower back & spine

The good news? Most leg length differences can often be corrected discreetly INSIDE the shoe using orthotics and heel lifts, creating a hidden solution that improves alignment and comfort without changing the appearance of the footwear 🙌

However, in more significant cases, there may not be enough room inside the shoe to achieve the correction needed. That’s where an external shoe lift may be recommended.

And no… this doesn’t mean a big bulky modification 👀
Modern external lifts can be subtle, neatly blended into the shoe, and designed to look natural while helping improve walking mechanics and reduce strain throughout the body.

Leg length discrepancies can develop from:
✔️ Genetics
✔️ Growth differences
✔️ Injuries or surgery
✔️ Joint degeneration
✔️ Long-term biomechanical changes

Sometimes the smallest lift can make the biggest difference ✨

Could a leg length discrepancy be the reason for your pain?

Tight calves? Heavy legs? Restricted movement?

Myobar Tool Assisted Release Therapy combined with fascia stripping techniques can help release tension through the calf muscles, lower limb, and fascial lines to improve mobility, circulation, and recovery.

This treatment targets:
• Tight calf muscles
• Achilles and lower limb tension
• Fascial restrictions
• Muscle soreness and fatigue
• Reduced mobility and stiffness

Using precise tool-assisted techniques, we work deeper into the tissue to break down adhesions, improve movement, and support faster recovery and performance.
