🔍 Insights from Farmsafe Australia’s 2026 Safer Farms report 🚜
Launched during National Farm Safety Week, this report provides a national overview of agricultural health and safety trends, highlighting ongoing risks, injury patterns, and opportunities to improve safety practices across Australian farms.
The key message from the report is that improving farm safety requires ongoing commitment, practical risk management, and a shift toward making safe behaviours part of everyday farming operations.
The report highlighted:
⏺ 53 agricultural workers lost their lives in 2025, while a further 182 people suffered serious injuries on Australian properties.
⏺ Since 2019, 427 farm-related deaths have been recorded, demonstrating that preventable incidents remain a significant challenge for the agricultural sector.
⏺ Mechanical equipment, including tractors, side-by-side utility vehicles, and quad bikes, continues to be the leading cause of fatal farm incidents.
⏺ Many accidents occur during everyday tasks, busy production periods, and times of increased operational pressure, where small safety compromises can become routine behaviours.
Farmsafe Australia’s 2026 National Farm Safety Week campaign, “Set the Standard: Show ‘em how it’s done” encouraged farmers and managers to lead by example through actions such as wearing helmets, using seatbelts, reducing travel speeds, and installing rollover protection structures (ROPS).
