Did you know hypermobility and mast cell activation often occur together?

Mast cells live within your connective tissue. When connective tissue is more flexible, mast cells may be easier to activate. This may help explain why so many people experience joint pain, dizziness, palpitations, gut symptoms, bladder symptoms, headaches, easy bruising and widespread sensitivity alongside hypermobility.

We’re still learning why these conditions overlap, but recognising the connection can help make sense of symptoms that once seemed completely unrelated.

This is Episode 3 of my MCAS Basics series. Follow for the next episode as we continue connecting the dots.

MCAS = a whole-body condition.

Mast cells live almost everywhere in your body, especially where your body meets the outside world, including your skin, eyes, nose, airways, digestive tract, bladder, blood vessels and nerves.

When they become overactive, they don’t just cause allergies. They release inflammatory chemicals, including histamine, that can affect multiple organs at the same time. That’s why symptoms such as eczema, asthma, bloating, reflux, headaches, palpitations, tinnitus, dizziness, brain fog, fluid retention and fatigue can all seem unrelated, yet sometimes have a common underlying pathway.

This is Episode 2 of my MCAS Basics series. Follow me so you don’t miss the next episode, where we’ll continue connecting the dots.

What exactly are mast cells? They are your body’s highly trained security guards, protecting you from viruses, bacteria and parasites. But when they become overactive, they release inflammatory chemicals such as histamine that can affect almost every organ in the body. This can contribute to symptoms such as eczema, asthma, flushing, easy bruising, palpitations, unexplained tinnitus, headaches, bloating, pain, fluid retention, fatigue, waking between 2–4 am, stubborn belly fat, lipoedema, dizziness or feeling light-headed, brain fog and many other seemingly unrelated symptoms.

This is Part 1 of my MCAS series. Follow me so you don’t miss the next videos, where I’ll help you connect the dots.

What if your symptoms aren’t because your body is failing… but because your immune system is trying too hard?

Imagine your body as a beautiful house with a loyal guard dog standing at the front door.

That guard dog is your mast cells.

Their job is to protect you from genuine danger like viruses, bacteria and injury.

But what happens when the guard dog starts barking at butterflies instead of burglars?

That simple analogy explains one of the most important concepts in Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).

If you’ve been told your symptoms are “just stress” but deep down you know something isn’t right, this video is for you.

Can HRT prevent dementia?

This question comes up frequently in my menopause consultations.

The latest evidence, summarised in this carousel, concludes that menopausal hormone therapy should not be prescribed solely to prevent dementia or cognitive decline in women with a natural menopause.

That does not mean HRT isn’t beneficial.

HRT remains one of the most effective treatments for menopausal symptoms, improving hot flushes, night sweats, sleep, genitourinary symptoms, bone health and quality of life. Current evidence simply tells us that dementia prevention should not be the reason for prescribing it.

An important exception is women with premature ovarian insufficiency or early menopause, where oestrogen replacement until the average age of menopause remains recommended (unless contraindicated).

Have you ever felt like you have the flu… but you’re not actually sick?

Many people with MCAS describe feeling exhausted, achy, foggy and unwell, even though they don’t have an infection.

That’s because the same chemical messengers your immune system releases to help fight a virus can also be released inappropriately when mast cells become overactive.

The result? It can feel as though your body is fighting an illness that isn’t there.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

Why didn’t you tell me?”

This week, two women asked me exactly the same question.

One was 50 years old.
The other was 80 years old, struggling with recurrent UTIs, severe insomnia and anxiety.

Both had watched friends regain their energy, sleep better and enjoy life again… but no one had told them that menopause and hormones could be part of the story.

The good news is that menopause care has changed.

✔️ HRT is more accessible and affordable than ever.
✔️ For most women over 45, menopause is diagnosed from your symptoms. Routine hormone blood tests are usually not needed.
✔️ We don’t routinely monitor HRT with hormone blood tests. We monitor how you feel.
✔️ There is no fixed five-year limit and no fixed age when you must stop HRT.
✔️ If you’re over 60 or more than 10 years since your last period, don’t assume it’s too late. An individual assessment can help determine whether HRT or another treatment is appropriate for you.

If HRT has helped you, tell another woman.

Tell your sister.
Tell your friend.
Tell your colleague.
Tell your mum.

One conversation could change someone’s life.

Let’s make sure fewer women ever have to say,
“I didn’t know.”

❤️ Share this with a woman who needs to hear it.

It’s time to understand the real biology of menopause weight gain.

For many women in perimenopause and menopause, stubborn weight gain isn’t simply about eating too much or exercising too little. The biology of your body changes.

As oestrogen falls, your metabolism changes. Your appetite hormones change. Your insulin sensitivity changes.

Your gut changes. Inflammation increases. Visceral fat becomes an active endocrine and immune organ.

The result? Losing weight becomes much harder than it used to be.

In this video, I join the dots and explain the real biology behind midlife weight gain in a simple way, so you can finally understand what is happening inside your body.

Once you understand the biology, you can start addressing the underlying causes—not just the symptom.

🎥 Watch until the end and let me know which part surprised you the most.

⚖️ Have you noticed that your weight changed during perimenopause or menopause, despite eating the same?

Five years ago, one woman walked through my clinic door. She was my very first patient and the only booking in my diary that day. I had no idea that one appointment would become thousands, or that it would completely change the course of my life.

This is the untold story of how Purity Health began, from an empty granny flat, borrowed furniture, Facebook bookings, and a dream to create a place where women would finally be heard.

But this isn't really my story. It's yours.

It's the story of every woman who was told, "Your blood tests are normal." Every woman who wondered if she was going crazy. Every woman who refused to accept that suffering through perimenopause or menopause was simply part of getting older.

Join me as I celebrate five years of Purity Health, reflect on the incredible women who have trusted me with their stories, and share why I believe the best is still to come.

Because every woman deserves to be heard, understood, and empowered to make informed decisions about her health.
