If you've been feeling a bit flat, restless, or caught in between lately, there's a reason for that.
I put together a few slides on how we see the shift from winter to spring in Chinese medicine, and why it's often gentler with a bit of support along the way.

Happy to talk you through it. See comment below. πŸ‘‡

Dr Mal here.
There's a particular kind of light that shows up in early August. Not quite spring yet, but you can feel it thinking about it.
After a heavy few months, that's usually all it takes - one small sign that things are starting to turn.
If you've been holding on through winter, this might be a good time to come in.

How's the change of season sitting with you so far?

Did anyone else catch this at Wimbledon? Novak Djokovic had tiny gold studs in his ears during his match against Sinner. Half the internet thought it was medical tape. It wasn't.
It's being called ear seeding and originally came from Traditional Chinese Medicine Auricular Acupuncture practices. And it's a lot older than Centre Court.
Here's the idea, and it's genuinely one of my favourite things to explain. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the ear isn't just an ear. It's treated like a small map of the whole body. Different points connect to different systems, not randomly, but mapped out and refined over centuries of practice, long before anyone had a name for "wellness."
Tiny seeds are placed on those points. Gentle pressure does the rest. No needles, which is exactly why they're so easy to spot sitting there on someone's ear.
In clinic, I practice the use of ear seeding/auricular acupuncture. Fine needles or tiny seeds are applied to Acupuncture points in the ear. It may assist with calming the nervous system, balancing hormones, addiction and digestion. It is part of a whole system treatment approach.
What I keep coming back to is this. Djokovic didn't discover something new out there on the court. He just made a very old idea visible to a few million people at once.
That's TCM, really. Quiet, considered, working in the background long before anyone's watching. I see it every week in clinic, in people who came in curious and leave saying they wish they'd tried it years ago.
If any part of this has you curious, that's usually where it starts for most people too.

If winter has been heavy this year, you are not the only one.
It is a season that asks a lot of us.
If a calmer few weeks sounds good, you know where I am.
The door is open.

Winter is not just about the cold.
It touches your energy, your sleep, your mood, even your low back. And in Traditional Chinese Medicine, those are not separate problems. They are one connected picture.
Reading the body that way is the whole point.

Look through for how winter shows up across the whole person.

A quick one worth knowing.
Acupuncture is covered by many private health funds under extras.
If you have extras cover, there is a good chance you can claim part of your visit. It is worth checking your policy.

Not sure? Call us and we will help you work it out.

What actually happens in a treatment?
We talk first. Then I read your pulse and your tongue, choose the points and place the needles gently.
Then you rest. That is often the part people are surprised by. It is calm, and most people find it deeply relaxing.
Nothing here is rushed.

Come and see for yourself.

For a lot of people, the first visit is about pain.
A back that won’t ease. A neck that aches with stress.
Acupuncture is one of the oldest ways of working with pain, and it is often where people start with me.
We don’t just look at the sore spot. We look at the pattern underneath it, and work from there.

If that sounds familiar, I've linked the full write-up in the comments. πŸ‘‡

Dr Mal’s three small things for winter.
Keep warm. Rest earlier. Eat warm and cooked.
Simple, but they make a difference this time of year.

Which one could you do more of?
