"The person living with dementia isn't always the one who needs support most."
Who is caring for the carer?
When someone is diagnosed with dementia, family members often step into the role of carer without any training or preparation.
They become the organiser, advocate, companion, and source of reassurance, often while balancing work, family, and their own wellbeing.
Many carers tell us they didn't realise how physically and emotionally demanding the role would become.
You don't have to do this alone.
Dementia Australia offers free information and education sessions that help families better understand dementia, communicate more effectively, and feel more confident supporting their loved one. Whether you're just starting your caring journey or have been providing care for years, these sessions offer practical advice and reassurance.
At Call on Clare, we also know that caring for yourself is just as important. Whether you need someone to stay with your loved one while you attend an education session, take a few hours to recharge, or simply have some time for yourself, our experienced nurses and support workers are here to help.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for the person you care for is to make sure you're supported too.
π What advice would you give someone who has recently become a carer? Your experience may help another family beginning their journey.
