If you obtain a referral from your GP to see a medical specialist, it remains active for 12 months from your first visit. If the document comes from one specialist to another specialist, it is valid for only 3 months. For allied health plans, the referral validity stretches up to 18 months from your initial consultation. Ensure you check your dates before booking to avoid unexpected out-of-pocket expenses.
