We’re proud to see Dr Philippa James and retired DWM Director Myriam Westcott featured as expert contributors in The Age’s recent article on tinnitus.

Myriam shares her decades of experience supporting people with distressing tinnitus, while Philippa explains the important links between tinnitus, stress, sound sensitivity and habituation.

It’s wonderful to see Myriam’s longstanding contribution to the field recognised alongside Philippa, who continues this important work at DWM Audiology today.

At least one in eight people suffer from the condition. While it can be tricky to treat, there are ways to “turn down the volume”.

DWM Audiology is excited to be selecetd as a certified Lenire partner!
Lenire is about to hit Australian shores after its success across Europe and the USA. Lenire is a handheld device that uses bimodal neuromodulation to reduce the severity of tinnitus. Lenire has been proven effective across three large-scale clinical trials with more than 500 tinnitus patients.

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is a critical medical emergency defined as a rapid drop in hearing of at least 30 decibels across three connected frequencies within 72 hours. You should urgently contact a general practitioner, an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist, or a local clinic like DWM Audiology for diagnostic testing.

The loss in one ear is permanent, and I have ongoing tinnitus as a side effect of a widely misdiagnosed condition.

🚨 Important Notice for Hearing Aid & Cochlear Implant Users🚨

If you wear Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids or cochlear implants this is something you'll want to know.

On Monday, 27 July 2026 the Australian Government will conduct a nationwide test of the new AusAlert emergency warning system

🕑 Time:2:00 pm AEST (please check your local time if you're in a different Australian time zone).

During the test, compatible mobile phones will play a 10-second emergency alert siren If your hearing devices are connected to your phone via Bluetooth, the alert may stream directly into your hearing aids or cochlear implant processor, which could be unexpectedly loud or startling.

To avoid being caught by surprise, you may wish to:
🔹 Turn off Bluetooth on your phone around 10 minutes before the test so the alert plays through your phone's speaker instead.
🔹 If preferred, briefly remove your hearing aid(s) or cochlear implant processor just before the scheduled test time.

We're sharing this information so our hearing health community has plenty of notice and can prepare if needed.

Please consider sharing this post with anyone you know who uses Bluetooth-connected hearing devices. 💙

Patients before profits. Always.

Recent media reports have highlighted commercial pressures in optometry.

For many audiologists, these same pressures have existed in corporate hearing care for years.

At DWM Audiology, our audiologists are not measured on hearing aid sales or commercial KPIs.

Their only KPI is providing ethical, evidence-based care that's right for each patient.

Because healthcare decisions should always be driven by clinical need—not sales targets.

Optometrists are being pressured to hit sales targets, rush consults and turn away clinical appointments during peak spending periods at multi-million dollar optometry chains that their employees say prioritise profits over health.

The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald has reviewed more than 80 internal reports and correspondence that expose the corporate business models of optometry brands selling out patients.

👶 Welcome to the DWM Family, Baby Jacob! 💙
We are delighted to share some wonderful news with our DWM community.
Congratulations to Courtney and Dylan on the arrival of their beautiful baby boy, Jacob. While Jacob decided to make an early appearance by arriving a few weeks ahead of schedule, we are pleased to report that mum, dad and baby are all doing well.
As part of his newborn care, Jacob recently completed his newborn hearing screening and passed with flying colours. 🎉
Please join us in welcoming little Jacob to the DWM family and congratulating Courtney and Dylan on this very special new chapter.
💙 Welcome to the world, Jacob!

With limited financial resources, EARS Inc. has changed thousands of lives around the world.

Since 1997, EARS Inc. has been dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of hearing impairment by training and equipping local individuals and organisations across low- and middle-income countries — including Cambodia, Ethiopia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, Zimbabwe and many more.

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending a fundraising dinner in support of this incredible organisation, and we are proud to share that DWM Audiology will continue to support their important work.

If you have any unused hearing aids sitting in a drawer, we would love to help give them a second life.
📍 Drop them into our clinic and we will ensure they are sent to EARS Inc. to be refurbished and redistributed to those in need.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference.
