🌱🌻Hands up for World Environment Day! 🌻🌱

Today, we celebrated World Environment Day right across the centre through meaningful, hands-on experiences that encouraged children to connect with and care for the natural world.

One of the children’s favourite activities was planting sunflower seeds, which they could either take home to nurture with their families or add to our centre garden. There was so much excitement as little hands carefully filled pots with soil, planted their seeds, and imagined the beautiful flowers that will grow in the weeks ahead.

Gardening offers so many wonderful benefits for children. It helps develop fine motor skills, encourages responsibility and patience, fosters a connection with nature, and supports wellbeing through sensory exploration and outdoor learning. It also provides valuable opportunities for children to learn about sustainability, life cycles, and the importance of caring for our environment.

We can’t wait to watch our sunflowers grow and continue nurturing a love and respect for the world around us. 🌻💚

Our children have been loving threading!

This simple yet engaging experience offers so many learning opportunities. As children carefully thread pieces of pasta, they are strengthening their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and perseverance. These skills are essential for developing independence and supporting future writing and drawing abilities.

Pasta threading also encourages problem solving, pattern making, creativity, and mathematical thinking as children explore different ways to arrange and connect their pieces. Most importantly, it provides a wonderful sense of accomplishment as children proudly create their own unique masterpieces.

Learning through play is always more meaningful when it is this much fun! 💛🌟

Each year, a Reconciliation Gallery emerges in Kalinga Park to coincide with the Sorry Day Gathering, facilitated by the Noonga Reconciliation Group. Before the ceremony commences, visitors have the opportunity to view artworks created by local childrens groups and schools as an act of reconciliation.

Reflecting on stories we’ve been told through yarns with community members, resources and books, each room group at Hendra House expressed what Reconcilation means to them. Through collaborative artworks from each learning space, we have come together to create our Hendra House artwork, which our Children’s Yarn Up Group have titled......

‘The Hands of Reconciliation’
The common theme we discovered was spreading love and kindness, which is represented through hearts and we say sorry “so we love them”. The children also reflected on coming together which is represented by handprints, images of people holding hands and joining our works as one, as we walk this journey together.

Last week, our superstars Miss Claire and Miss Hannah attended the Crossing Cultures Intelligence Professional Development session for Warra Cluster members at the Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre.

The afternoon was filled with meaningful connection, reflection, and learning as they deepened their understanding of First Nations histories, cultures, perspectives, and ways of knowing. They shared that the session provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of reconciliation and reconnect with the purpose behind the work we do each day in creating culturally safe, respectful, and inclusive environments for children and families.

We are grateful for opportunities such as these that continue to strengthen our knowledge, challenge our thinking, and support our ongoing commitment to walking alongside First Nations peoples with respect, understanding, and action. ❤️🖤💛

We are so excited to share that we smashed our fundraising goal for Children's Ground through our Wear It Yellow Day, raising an incredible $1,815!

A huge thank you to our wonderful families, team, children, and community members who donated, dressed in yellow, and helped make the day such a success. Your generosity and support will help Children’s Ground continue their important work alongside First Nations communities, creating lasting change for children, families, and future generations.

Thank you for helping us turn a sea of yellow into something truly meaningful. We are so grateful for your support and proud of what we achieved together. 💛🌼✨

Have you driven past our centre in the last week? 💛

If so, you may have noticed our beautiful Sea of Hearts proudly displayed out the front of our centre as part of National Reconciliation Week.

Over the past few weeks, our children, families, educators and community members have come together to share what reconciliation means to them, filling our hearts with thoughtful words, reflections, hopes and commitments. Each heart tells a story and represents the many voices within our community, all contributing to a shared vision of respect, understanding and connection.

Our Sea of Hearts serves as a powerful reminder that reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility and that even the smallest actions can help create meaningful change. We are incredibly grateful to our families, team and community members for taking the time to contribute and share their perspectives.

As we continue to learn, listen and grow together, we invite you to stop by, take a moment to read the hearts and reflect on what reconciliation means to you.

Together, we can help build a more connected, respectful and inclusive future for all. 🖤💛❤️

Today, Miss Emma and Miss Vee had the privilege of attending the National Sorry Day Gathering at Kalinga Park, organised by Noonga Reconciliation Group joining community members in honouring the Stolen Generations and reflecting on the importance of truth-telling, healing and reconciliation.

As part of the morning, they were proud to support the event by helping set up the children’s activities and the beautiful outdoor art gallery, creating welcoming spaces for children, families and the wider community to connect, create and learn together.

The gathering was filled with powerful stories, meaningful conversations, art, music and community spirit. We were excited to bring photos from the morning and artwork from the outdoor gallery back to the centre to share with the children. They were fascinated by the displays and enjoyed learning more about the significance of National Sorry Day through the experiences and stories shared.

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be involved in such an important event and remain committed to continuing these conversations with our children as we walk together on our reconciliation journey. 💜

Today we proudly celebrated Wear It Yellow Day at Hendra House, coming together to support Children's Ground and help create brighter futures for First Nations children and communities.

Despite the rainy weather, our centre was absolutely bursting with sunshine as children and educators arrived dressed in every shade of yellow imaginable! From bright yellow outfits and accessories to big smiles and laughter, our Sea of Yellow brought so much joy, energy, and connection throughout the day.

The children loved seeing their friends and educators dressed up, and there was so much excitement as we celebrated together and talked about the importance of making a positive difference in the lives of others. It was wonderful to see our team fully embrace the day, creating fun experiences and helping spread awareness for such an important cause.

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Your generosity helps support Children’s Ground in creating opportunities led by First Nations communities for future generations.

If you haven’t had the chance to donate yet, it’s not too late! Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.

Thank you for helping us turn a rainy day into one filled with sunshine, kindness, and community spirit. 💛🌼☀️
