Fraser Coast Ortho-Bionomy

Fraser Coast Ortho-Bionomy Ortho-Bionomy sessions and classes for pain relief, improved posture and nervous system reset. How does Ortho-Bionomy Work?

I received my first Ortho-Bionomy treatment in 1997, while struggling with an ongoing shoulder injury. I was intrigued that such a gentle method could have such powerful benefits. Within (3) treatments the chronic issue I had been living with for several years, and for which I'd undergone all kinds of treatment, resolved entirely. Coming from a science and Remedial Massage background, I began to s

tudy with Ortho-Bonomy Instructors myself in 1998. Originally my interest was for the ongoing professional development requirements of health fund compliancy for the massage industry. I soon realised the benefits the treatment offered, beyond that of massage. Studying in a self paced way, I spent the next (10) years attending classes, incorporating Ortho-Bionomy into my treatemnts, and now practice and teach as an Advanced Practitioner and Instructor of Ortho-Bionomy. I practice Ortho-Bionomy exclusively in my clinic now for several reasons

Ortho-Bionomy is a gentle, non-invasive method of therapeutic bodywork which uniquely addresses pain and stress patterns and promotes structural balance and ease of movement. Ortho-Bionomy differs from many forms of body work in that it doesn’t use pain to treat pain, or use forceful work to oppose what is structurally occurring within the body. Instead, Ortho-Bionomy interacts with the natural movement and structural patterns of the nervous system. These natural patterns are what allow our body to heal when injured. But sometimes, through injury, chronic pain, incorrect posture, repetitive overuse, disease or even aging, these patterns for self correction become overridden, confused, or inaccessible to the nervous system, and natural recovery can't occur. When we work supportively with the patterns currently at play within the body instead, of attempting to forcefully overpower them, information can be given to the nervous system that creates a follow-on effect through the body's natural reflexes. This allows corrections to occur comfortably for clients. Ortho-Bionomy Practitioners are trained to assess imbalances in the body that may cause pain or dysfunction. Then using gentle but deliberate movement, practitioners assist and track the client’s body as it accesses the self-corrective capacity, to return to optimum health.

"Exaggerating what is." This is one of the Ortho-Bionomy principles. Showing your body possibilities, and moving with most ease allows the nervous system to notice its patterns, structural imbalances, then reorganise and recover.
Headstands may never be possible, but standing upright without pain is a distinct possibility when we work this way.

Sometimes during a session of Ortho-Bionomy, we might support a person and ask them to gently push into a little offered resistance, for a few seconds. This is an isometric, or isotonic, done in an Ortho-Bionomy way.
By just using a minimal effort it can offer the person an experience of finding strength, and experience resilience.
Spectacularly empowering on a physical, mental and emotional level.
I'm teaching an Isometrics class in December. Stay tuned 😊

2026 has been a culmination of personal growth and self development for me. After several years I am proud to say I have progressed to become an Advanced Instructor of Ortho-Bionomy.
That expands my teaching in a way that allows me to teach, and support students in learning the advanced Ortho-Bionomy classes.
It means I can offer those classes in Hervey Bay, and local students can learn those skills locally. Exciting!
