✨ Thirty years ago, a 21-year-old version of me walked into my first-ever yoga class in Bondi Junction, Sydney, Australia, led by senior Iyengar teacher Kay Parry. In that room an awakening occurred, sparking a lifelong curiosity. No matter where I travelled in the world, I sought out Iyengar yoga. I explored Ashtanga, Bikram, and Vinyasa, but my spirit always longed for the ropes on the walls, the beautiful precision of the props and the supported guidance of its Teachers.
In 2013, life brought me back home to Hervey Bay. While walking my dog on the beach, a chance conversation changed everything. A woman told me she was opening an Iyengar Yoga School.. in Hervey Bay!
I showed up on opening day for that first free class, and the Hervey Bay School of Yoga has been my sanctuary ever since. As rough as life got in the last 13 years there was always the safety and compassion of the Hervey Bay School of Yoga.
Seven years ago, I entered the teacher training program. This journey has not been a straight line but through the deeply caring, patient, and supportive mentorship of Senior Iyengar Teacher Polly Realf, the door was always held open. Reflecting on her mentorship honestly brings me to tears of gratitude.
In November 2026, I will officially assume the role of business owner and lead teacher of the Hervey Bay School of Yoga. I feel a profound responsibility as the Guardian of this sacred space, to be of service to our beautiful community and to keep the flame of B.K.S. Iyengar’s teachings burning bright right here in the Bay.
