CO₂ Skin Journey — Day 2

Honestly, my skin is feeling pretty good! There’s no pain and very little redness — it just feels a bit dry today.

Underneath, though, the healing process has begun. The tiny controlled injuries created by the fractional CO₂ are triggering my skin’s natural repair response, which will stimulate new collagen and gradually improve texture and pigmentation.

So far, so good, now we let my skin do its thing.

Day 2

Well nobody said skin rejuvenation was going to be pretty. 😂

This is Day 2 after my CO₂ fractional laser treatment and I wanted to show you the REAL recovery ,redness, swelling, texture and all.

I’m doing this as part of my own skin rejuvenation journey, focusing on improving pigmentation, skin texture, firmness and stimulating new collagen.

Menopause has definitely changed my skin. As oestrogen declines, we lose collagen and our skin can become thinner, drier and less firm ,so I’ve decided it’s time to give mine a little encouragement.

I’ll keep documenting the healing process and the changes over the coming weeks, because the interesting part isn’t what it looks like today,it’s what happens as that new collagen starts doing its thing.

Day 2: definitely not the glamour stage.

Day 1 of my skin rejuvenation journey.

Menopause doesn’t just change our metabolism, sleep and body composition — our skin gets dragged into the party too. 😏

As oestrogen declines through menopause, so does its protective effect on our skin. We begin to lose collagen, elastin, hydration and skin thickness, which can mean:

• More fine lines and wrinkles
• Crepey or thinner-looking skin
• Less firmness and elasticity
• Changes in skin tone and texture
• That general feeling that everything isn’t quite sitting where it used to!

And collagen loss can be particularly rapid around the menopausal transition.

So I’ve decided to start my own skin rejuvenation journey ,not because I’m trying to look 25 again (good grief, I don’t have the energy 😂), but because I want my skin to look fresher with a more even skin tone.

I’m starting with CO₂ fractional laser treatment at The Dermal Clinic, which works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate the natural healing response, collagen remodelling and new collagen production.

Then, once my skin has completely healed,I’ll be incorporating RF skin-tightening treatments that I can perform myself.

Radiofrequency uses controlled heat within the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production and support gradual tightening and improved skin firmness.

My goal?

Better texture.
Better tone.
More firmness.
Healthier-looking skin.

Not changing my face. Not trying to turn back the clock.

Just working with my menopausal skin and giving it a little encouragement to do what it doesn’t do quite as enthusiastically anymore.

Menopause may change the rules but that doesn’t mean we stop looking after the skin we’re in.

Most weight loss plans fail for one simple reason.

They are miserable to stick to.

If your plan leaves you hungry, exhausted, constantly thinking about food, avoiding social occasions and counting down the days until you can “eat normally again" how sustainable is it really?

Because the goal shouldn’t be to become really good at dieting.

It should be to create a way of eating and living that supports your health without making you miserable in the process.

You should be able to enjoy satisfying food.
Go out for dinner.
Celebrate birthdays.
Take a holiday.
Enjoy the occasional treat.

And still move towards your goals.

And this becomes even more important during perimenopause and menopause, when the old “eat less and exercise more” approach often doesn’t give us the results it once did.

Our bodies are changing.
Muscle mass, insulin sensitivity, sleep, stress, hormones and where we store body fat can all shift during this stage of life.

That doesn’t mean we need a stricter diet.

It means we need a smarter, more sustainable approach.

That’s why I tell my clients all the time:

It’s a lifestyle, not a diet.

A diet has a start date, an end date and usually a list of things you’re not allowed to do.

A lifestyle is learning how to make choices that support your body most of the time while still having a life.

Because if you’re only making changes until the weight comes off, what happens when you reach your goal?

We’re not trying to create something you can tolerate for 12 weeks.

We’re creating habits you can live with for years.

No perfection. No punishment. No waiting until Monday to “start again”.

Just a healthier way of eating and living that eventually becomes your normal.

Today I took some of my own advice and made time for me.

Self-care isn’t something we should only squeeze in when everything else is done because, seriously, when is everything ever done?

Taking time to slow down, switch off and do something that makes you feel good isn’t selfish. It’s part of looking after your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

And self-care doesn’t have to mean an entire day at the spa. It might be a walk, a quiet coffee, a massage, reading a book, getting your hair done, or simply saying “today, I’m making myself a priority too.”

We spend so much time looking after everyone else.

You’re allowed to be on your own priority list.

Why am I gaining weight when I’m not eating any differently? 🤷‍♀️

It’s one of the most common questions I hear from women in perimenopause and menopause.

The truth is, you may not have changed what you’re eating — but your body has changed how it responds to it.

Hormonal changes, insulin sensitivity, muscle loss, sleep, stress and changes in activity can all play a role.

And no, the answer isn’t always “eat less and exercise more.”

Sometimes we need to change the strategy, not just cut more food.

Same woman. Different rules.

This is one of the most misunderstood truths about lipedema.

So many patients are told to “just eat less or try harder.” But lipedema is not caused by overeating. It is a medical condition that changes how the body stores fat.

If this has been your experience, you are not alone. And it is not your fault.

Learning the truth is often the first step toward self-compassion and better care.

And knowing there are ways to manage it can bring a sense of hope.
