Did you know an assessment for your teen can uncover far more than a diagnosis? 🧠

A comprehensive assessment looks at how your teenager thinks, learns, manages emotions, and copes with school and friendships, not just one behaviour in isolation. It combines standardised testing, a direct conversation with your teen, and input from the people who know them best.

From autism and ADHD to learning and exam special provisions, there's a wide range of assessments for adolescents, each designed to answer different questions about your teen's unique profile.

Curious what the process actually looks like, and which signs are worth paying attention to? Our latest article breaks down the types of assessments available and what to expect at each step.

Is your child's teacher raising concerns you don't quite know what to do with? 😕

It's a familiar spot for so many parents. Maybe it's reading that isn't clicking, friendships that feel harder than they should, or big reactions to small changes. You want answers, but you're not sure whether it's "wait and see" or time for something more.

At Raise the Bar Clinic, we offer a full range of assessments for children, including autism, ADHD, learning, and developmental assessments, each tailored to your family's specific questions rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Whether you're in Heatherton, Clyde North, Moonee Ponds, or Sale, our team is here to help you make sense of what you're seeing and find the right next step.

Most parents have a gut sense when something feels off with their child's reading. Knowing when to act on that feeling is trickier.

Reading development varies naturally in early primary school. Some children decode quickly; others take a bit longer. What tends to stand out as a concern is persistent difficulty beyond the point most children have consolidated the skill. Struggling to decode unfamiliar words in Year 2, spelling that doesn't improve with practice, strong avoidance of reading tasks, these are patterns worth paying attention to.

A learning assessment can identify whether there's a processing difference beneath the surface, and what kind of support would genuinely help. If you've been watching and wondering, reaching out is a reasonable next step.

Did you know that Year 12 VTAC SEAS applications aren’t just for physical illnesses? 🎓✨

If your young person has a diagnosis of ADHD, Autism, a Specific Learning Disorder (like Dyslexia), anxiety, or chronic executive dysfunction, they may be eligible for adjustments under VTAC SEAS Category 3 (Disability or Medical Condition).

SEAS isn't a "handout"—it’s an equity bridge. It recognises the extra cognitive energy, processing time, and effort neurodivergent students exert every day in standard school environments. 🧠💙

3 Quick Steps to Apply:
1️⃣ Log into the VTAC Portal and head to SEAS Category 3.
2️⃣ Draft an Impact Statement describing how study, focus, or attendance was affected.
3️⃣ Request a Health Practitioner Statement from your Raise the Bar clinician early!

⚠️ Don't wait until the last week—practitioners need time to complete thorough statements.

👉 Start the Process Online: Complete our quick Online Enquiry / Booking Form and a member of our friendly admin team will be in touch to help you secure a spot.

03/08/2026

Phonological awareness is one of those terms that sounds more technical than it needs to be. Put simply, it's a child's ability to hear, identify, and work with the sounds in spoken language. Recognising that 'cat' and 'bat' rhyme, separating a word into its individual sounds, clapping out syllables, these are all phonological awareness skills.

This matters because phonological awareness is one of the strongest predictors of how well a child will learn to read and spell. When it's underdeveloped, it often shows up as persistent difficulty decoding unfamiliar words, even after significant practice.

If your child is putting in the effort but reading and spelling aren't improving as expected, this is worth understanding properly. Our learning assessments can identify where the difficulty is actually coming from.
