Congratulations to Hobart Private and St Helen’s Private Hospitals.

Together we successfully completed a full hospital accreditation survey in March with the final accreditation received last week. This accomplishment is acknowledgment of the quality of patient care and safety at our hospitals provided in compliance with the National Safety and Quality Health Services Standards. General Manager, Kathryn Berry said the survey process is a valuable real time assessment of our hospital and our clinical governance, patient experience and outcomes, clinical procedures and safety and workplace health and safety. Kathryn recognises the diversity of skill sets required to deliver health services to this standard and the culture of quality sitting at the centre of patient care at our hospitals. Congratulations to all staff on this achievement and a special thank you to families and friends of our staff and to our valued community of patients.

International Nurses Day: 12 May

Hobart Private and St Helen’s Private Hospitals would like to acknowledge our fantastic nurses and celebrate their contribution to the health and wellbeing of our community.

Nurses are key to health care in all areas, in caring for us and our loved ones, in helping us all along life’s journey from birth to death, in keeping us safe and well in hospital and in the community, in advocating for their patients and in supporting their colleagues in other health professions.

THANK YOU.

HAPPY DOCTORS DAY
On March 30th each year, National Doctors Day honours these professionals for their dedication in putting the patient first time and again and contributing to society and the community.

On National Doctors Day, all of us at St Helen's Private Hospital and our patients say “thank you” to our psychiatrists, paediatricians and GPs for all that they do for their patients and families.

Happy Chinese New Year
The Lunar New Year for 2021 ushers in the year of the Metal Ox with 15 days of celebrations from 12 February until the first full moon after the Spring Festival, known as Lantern Festival day. St Helen’s Private Hospital wishes all our patients and families and our staff celebrating across these 15 days true new year happiness and prosperity. A quick browse online suggests the year of the Metal Ox brings career advancement, success in business, prosperity, and wellness for all the Chinese zodiac signs. Hopefully the reference to wellness hints at effective COVID vaccines sooner rather than later, right?
(If you don’t speak Mandarin and want to wish someone a Happy Chinese New Year try “xin nian kuai le” pronounced shin nee-an kwai le, a formal greeting meaning “New Year happiness”. A shortened version is “xin nian hao” pronounced shin nee-an how more often used for friends and family.)

This is our happy baby Audrey and me at the mum and bub unit at St Helen’s. Our time here has made the world of difference for our little family. Staff were so kind and supportive and they guided us with baby’s sleeping problems and much more.
We learned more about feeding and introducing solids, playtime and bath time, routine structure. Reassurance and information was what we needed and we regained our confidence. Thanks MBU staff. Kate

November was a month of remembrance and we did just that with a pause to reflect on the sacrifices of our service men and women both past and present. We could not help but consider the extraordinary year that has been 2020 and begin to look ahead to the festive season with friends and family and the promise of the New Year ahead.

2020 is the year of COVID and our hospitals and the State have done extremely well on the backs of the incredible efforts of our great people. While there is hope of a vaccine around the corner we must all remain vigilant as we head into the holiday period. Families and communities will be coming together to celebrate this special season and as frontline healthcare workers we will stay alert for any signs that COVID may have returned for the safety of our patients, staff and our communities.

We continue to follow current public health guidelines with hand hygiene and social distancing practices applying to patients, staff and visitors. Visiting times are currently as follows.
Hampden Unit: Only two nominated persons may visit from 12:30pm to 1:30pm or 4:30pm to 8.00pm weekdays.
On weekends, visitors are welcome between 12.00 and 8.00pm.
Mother Baby Unit: Partners (co parents) have no time restrictions.
One other nominated visitor (over age 16) may visit between 11.00 and 1.00. Siblings may also visit at this time with a nominated visitor.

All visitors will continue to complete screening form at front reception and have a visitor sticker.
All visitors must comply with public health guidelines and are asked to report to reception or the nurses station before visiting .
