FAMILY AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE | Did you know 1 in 4 women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from an intimate partner since the age of 15?

A full-time GP may see up to five unidentified women experiencing abuse each week.

Pathways to Safety, developed by the Safer Families Centre, builds the practical skills you need to recognise abuse, respond safely and connect your patients with the support they need.

MENTAL HEALTH | Primary Health Tasmania has selected experienced mental health service provider Wellways Australia to lead delivery of the new Connected Care - Mental Health service across Tasmania.

Together with Stride Mental Health and Clarity Health Care, Wellways will provide a range of free services to support adults with mild, moderate, or severe and complex mental illness.

Support will be available in person, by phone and online, including from urban hubs and through outreach to rural and remote areas. The multidisciplinary workforce will include psychologists, Aboriginal health workers, peer workers, mental health nurses and allied health workers.

Connected Care - Mental Health will allow people to move between different levels of care within a single service as their needs change, which means a simpler and more seamless care experience.

The service, which is funded by the Australian Government, is expected to be fully implemented from January 2027.

In the latest edition of Primary Health Matters, GP registrar Dr Jason Ratcliffe shares how family and sexual violence training gave him the practical tools to have these difficult conversations and better support patients.

The training, coordinated by Primary Health Tasmania and delivered by the University of Melbourne's Safer Families Centre, is helping general practices and Aboriginal health services strengthen their response to family and sexual violence.

For many people experiencing family and sexual violence, general practice may be one of the few places they encounter someone who can help.

Pathways to Safety is a practical, evidence-based training program designed for both clinical and non-clinical general practice staff. Developed by the Safer Families Centre, these workshops will help you build the confidence, skills and knowledge to recognise family and sexual violence, respond safely, and connect patients with the support they need.

There are eight Medicare UCCs in Tasmania, open 7 days a week.
