Written communication can be very difficult for people with dyslexia. Dyslexia can also cause difficulties with things other than reading and writing. But with the right supports, people with dyslexia can learn the skills needed to help them thrive!

Evidence-based approaches like the Orton Gillingham (OG) Language Approach can help.

✔️ Our OG Language Approach training is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association. We also offer individual face-to-face sessions with specially trained OG Educators, and assessments.

Teacher Appreciation Post 🧑‍🏫 Shout out to all the amazing teachers we work with!

This World Teacher Day marks the 60th anniversary of the UNESCO Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers. It’s a day to celebrate how teachers are transforming education but also to reflect on the support they need to fully deploy their talent and vocation.

Today highlights the importance of protecting and advancing the status of the teaching profession in a rapidly changing world. Today teachers face new challenges and “these pressures affect several dimensions of the status of teachers:
• their symbolic status, when teaching is not sufficiently recognized or valued;
• their professional status, shaped by limited autonomy, support or voice in policy-making;
• and their material status, compromised by salaries, workloads and working environments that do not allow teachers to fully exercise their role.” UNESCO says.

UNESCO calls on “governments, education stakeholders and society at large to strengthen the recognition, support and conditions that enable teachers to thrive.”

We are privileged to work with many remarkable teachers who are dedicated to their students’ development and well-being. Thank you teachers!

Tips for interacting with AAC users 📲 Many people with speech difficulties use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). It means using different methods to communicate, like speech generating devices; talking apps; books or boards with symbols, written words or pictures; or sign language.

Earlier this year our team did some training in AAC devices with Peter from Liberator Australia. He shared some great tips for interacting with AAC users.

It’s AAC Awareness Month so we thought we’d share those tips with you!

If you are an AAC user, what tips would you add?
