Restorative and Yin can look pretty similar from the outside. Lots of props, lots of time on the floor, not a whole lot of moving. But what’s actually happening in the body is quite different.

Restorative is about support. We use enough props that the body doesn’t have to hold itself up or work to maintain the shape. The idea is to create the conditions where you can fully rest, which is why you might spend 10, 15 or even 20 minutes in one position.

Yin has a different intention. Those longer holds deliberately work with the body’s connective tissues, including fascia, ligaments and tendons.

And that distinction matters, because more range isn’t necessarily what every body needs.

For someone who is hypermobile, a practice that encourages even more range through connective tissue may not be the most appropriate choice. Sometimes what the body needs is support, rather than another opportunity to stretch.

So if you’ve been choosing Yin because you want the slow, restful end of the yoga spectrum, Restorative might actually be the class you’re looking for ☁️

And if you have absolutely no idea which one is right for you, ask us. That’s what your teachers are there for 🤎

Yin, Pin + Hot Stones with hayley rose and Sally Kluss

Imagine long-held Yin shapes, the grounding warmth of hot stones, and the subtle medicine of acupuncture. A space to soften, release, and return to your centre.

Join Hayley Rose and Acupuncturist Sally Kluss for this deeply nourishing 2-hour experience at Folde Yoga School.

Guided by the Earth element, the energy of nourishment, stability and belonging, this class is an invitation to come home to yourself and be held, fully.

Through supported Yin postures, weighted heated stones, and gentle acupuncture offered during savasana, your body is guided into deep rest allowing tension to dissolve, breath to deepen, and the nervous system to settle.

What to expect:
Deeply restful Yin shapes
Heated stones to encourage release + grounding
Acupuncture to support the flow of Qi
Nervous system regulation
Space to slow down completely

Perfect for anyone craving stillness, and a moment to simply be.

No prior yoga or acupuncture experience needed. Come exactly as you are.

I don’t think music in a yoga class is inherently bad. I think it depends on what you’re trying to create.

If the intention is to help students notice more, not just physically but energetically too, then sometimes less input gives them more access to what’s actually happening.

When the movement is simple and familiar, the practice can become meditative. There’s more room to notice breath, effort, sensation, energy, and all the subtle shifts that you miss when there’s constant stimulation 📻

The same can be true at the other end of the spectrum. If you’re attempting something complex or unfamiliar, full presence becomes pretty important. Your attention has to stay with what your body is doing in that exact moment.

That’s why I don’t think silence in yoga is empty. It can actually be incredibly full.

For me, music can absolutely have a place in class. But when the intention is to notice more, I’ll often choose less 🕯️

Sometimes the class you planned isn’t the class you end up teaching.

You might have written a beautiful sequence the night before, but when you walk into the room, the people in front of you might need something totally different.

If I walk into a 7pm Yin class and everyone is already lying down, I’m probably not going to ask them all to stand up just because that’s where my sequence begins. I’ll meet them there and gradually work our way towards what I had planned.

The same goes for the energy in the room. If everyone is chatting and laughing, asking them to immediately drop into meditation might not work. Maybe we move first and find the stillness later on.

I think there’s a lot of value in having a plan as a teacher, but there’s just as much value in knowing when to change it.

People will often tell you what they need through their bodies, their energy, and the way they arrive in the room. Part of teaching is learning how to notice that and respond to it.

Your sequence is there to support your teaching, not dictate it 🪑

What if your yoga practice wasn’t about how far you could stretch or how deep you can go in a pose?

Within the context of Hatha Yoga, which falls under the umbrella of Ta**ra, asana can be understood as a way of working with the physical body so that energy/prana can move freely.

Sometimes this means doing less rather than more.

Softening your jaw. Relaxing your face. Slowing your movement. Paying attention to the way things feel, rather than how they look.

These are the parts of yoga that can easily get lost when our understanding of the practice begins and ends with asana. Asana is a wonderful tool, but there’s more to the story.

In Yoga in Depth, we spend time exploring the history, philosophy and many traditions that sit behind the physical practice, alongside anatomy, movement, pranayama, meditation, energetics and teaching methodology.

Because when you understand more about why we practise, the way you practise begins to change too. And this is a good thing. We go deeper than shapes in space.

Yoga in Depth, our 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training, returns in March 2027. Created for those who want to teach and those who simply want to understand the practice on a deeper level.

See our trainings and events page on our website for more details 🤎
