Today, Knights of the Shed had the absolute privilege of facilitating a special 2-hour Zentangle class for some truly remarkable people.
Foster carers do incredible, heart-led work in our community every single day, often behind the scenes and without enough recognition. Taking a moment to pause, unwind, and recharge is so important, and today was all about giving them a well-deserved break.
We joined some wonderful local foster carers, a few of the kids, Mary (the amazing leader of Fostering Hope here in Hobart), and even Walnut, a guide dog in training who brought plenty of extra joy to the room! Together, everyone picked up their pens, focused on the relaxing rhythm of tangling, and created something truly beautiful.
Take a look at the incredible collective artwork everyone produced. A massive thank you to Mary, Fostering Hope, and every foster carer out there for everything you do for Hobart’s young people.

A lovely two hours running a Zentangle session with Shane and his team at the Hutchins School in Hobart. We spent our time slowing down, working through foundational tangles on classic square tiles, and then exploring Zendalas with a Marasu string.
Beyond taking a genuine breather, these sessions offer some takeaways for schools and workplaces:
Embracing imperfection: The core philosophy is that there are no mistakes, just new opportunities. It is a powerful tool for helping both students and staff move past perfectionism.
Focus and regulation: The deliberate, repetitive patterns act as a simple reset button to settle minds before focused tasks or after a busy day.
Collaborative art: Individual tiles assemble into striking group mosaics, making for a great team project.

Helping out with some Zentangle lessons today as primary school students visited Montrose Bay High School to rehearse their dance pieces as part of the Horizon Project with Drill Youth Dance Company. As students rotated through the various stages of the day, there was also some down time to hula hoop, cartwheel, compete in Chess, complete Sudokus, play the extremely popular Tapple (will definitely be ordering this for our collection at Knights of the Shed!). What a great bunch of young people doing amazing things.

This is happening next week Thursday 28th May. Baptcare has been working with Metro to design this session to support people with disability to feel more confident and comfortable using public transport. It provides a safe, supportive environment where participants can learn, ask questions, and build practical skills for independent travel.

A friendly reminder that Term 1 social skills programs have ended. Next week we are running our school holiday program for kids and teens (enrolment essential) and then young adults recommence their regular program on Friday 1st of May with all other age groups starting from Monday 4th of May. All regular participants in all age groups will need to re-enrol for Term 2 (emails have been sent). It’s Autism Understanding Day today, thank you to Hayden and the Win News Team for dropping by to highlight the lived experiences and voices of Autistic people and find out more about our popular social skills programs - overseen by our program psychologist (and evidence based!)

If you’re considering trying us out, our holiday program information will be available soon for our Kids and Teens age groups - a good way to see if it’s the right fit before signing up for the school term.
