If stiff, achy knees or hips are slowing you down, you are in very good company. Arthritis in the larger joints is common as we age, and the old advice to simply rest and avoid movement has well and truly had its day.

Staying gently active, managing load and keeping the surrounding muscles strong can help maintain mobility and ease day-to-day discomfort. The right support makes the difference between managing well and just putting up with it.

If your joints could use a hand, have a chat with our team at Back 4 Life Wellness Centre. Call (03) 5381 1892 and we will take a look together.

A disc 'bulge' diagnosis can sound alarming. Take a breath, because it is more manageable than the name suggests. πŸ™‹β™€οΈ

A herniated disc happens when the softer inside of a disc pushes against its outer layer, sometimes irritating a nearby nerve. It can be painful, but most cases settle well with conservative care rather than anything dramatic.

Gentle spinal care and a tailored movement plan can help reduce irritation and restore mobility over time.

If this sounds like you, book in with our team at Back 4 Life Wellness Centre on (03) 5381 1892 and we can work through it together.

Your lower back does the heavy lifting, literally. πŸ’ͺ

The lumbar vertebrae are the largest in your spine, and for good reason. They carry the most load of any section. The two lowest joints, L4 to L5 and L5 to S1, are also the most common sites for disc injury, simply because that is where the pressure piles up.

It is why looking after your lower back is rarely wasted effort.

"The most difficult thing is the decision to act. The rest is merely tenacity." Amelia Earhart

Few things prove this like dealing with persistent pain. Deciding to actually do something about it is the hardest step. After that, it is mostly showing up and following through.

If you have been putting off sorting out a ni**le, consider this your nudge.

What have you been meaning to act on? Tell us in the comments.

Your spine is a switchboard. πŸ‘€

Those nerve roots branching off your spinal cord connect to muscles and tissues all over the body. It is a big reason spinal health and overall comfort are so closely linked.

The graphic maps which spinal regions connect where. A neat reminder that your back is busier than it lets on.

Which connection surprised you most? Save it for later.

Five minutes now can save you weeks later. πŸ’ͺ

Skipping the warm-up is the most common shortcut going, and the one your body objects to most. A good warm-up wakes up the muscles, nudges blood flow where it is needed and primes your joints for what is coming.

It does not need to be fancy. A few minutes of gentle movement that mimics your activity does the trick.

Word of the month: radiculopathy πŸ€”

A mouthful, but the meaning is simpler than it sounds. 'Radix' is Latin for root, and radiculopathy is what happens when a nerve root gets irritated or compressed where it exits the spine. The result can be pain, tingling or weakness travelling along a limb, often nowhere near the actual source.

That travelling pain is the clue. Chiropractic care aims to reduce the compression and help restore comfort.

πŸ‘ Want buns of steel? Or just want to stand up from the sofa without creaking? πŸ˜„

Either way, strong glutes are your ally. They're one of the body's biggest powerhouses for movement, posture and load transfer β€” and when they're not working well, other areas pick up the slack.

Start with: 🟒 Double leg glute bridge β€” lie on your back, knees bent, feet flat, lift hips by squeezing glutes, lower with control.

Then progress to: πŸ”΅ Single leg glute bridge β€” one leg lifts and suddenly your glutes realise this is not a drill πŸ˜„

Why it matters beyond the fantasy:

πŸ’ͺ Reduces strain through the lower back
🧍 Better hip control supports posture
🦡 Less load on knees during walking and stairs
πŸƒ Improves overall movement efficiency
🧠 Better balance through daily activities

When the glutes do their job, your back, hips and knees often get a bit of a holiday. πŸͺ΅
