What a day for a road trip - winter has well and truly arrived!

Enjoyed a nice day on the road before the rain and wind really took hold - lovely to see the misty clouds roll in over the ranges - a bit sad to see this mornings blue sky fade away...

Today, we visited some lovely folks in need of physiotherapy in...

It was an absolute honour and privilage to sit in the audience at the and listen to Dr Gill's story and life journey, hearing about her experience of healthcare and physiotherapy - from learning to catch rolled up bandages in ICU, to learning to move & walk again as a double amputee, not just in the hospital but out there in the community - from playgound to pub! What a woman and what an inspiration. And what a profession we are privilaged to be a part of! ❤️ Thank you Australian Physiotherapy Association for giving us the opportunity to listen to her story and journey, & for the reminder that what we do as a profession matters, every human life matrers and everyone of us can Make A Difference!

🏋‍♂️Get the weight out ladies! 💪 What we do now, impacts us much later in life and may well prevent illness and disease catching up with us as well as dictate our ability to stay living at home independently in our later years or needing care.

Women in their 40s, 50s and 60s are realising importance of keeping their bodies fit and strong as they age

Not sure where those 10 years went to but it's been great and I look forward to hopefully another few decades within our wonderful profession!

Thank you for some Monday evening reading with a cup of tea, winding down after a day of home visits out east of Melbourne - waiting for the sun to go down before I can take my heat sensitive greyhound out for a walk!

A great article inside about young onset parkinsons disease.

Did you know that almost 200,000 people live with Parkinsons Disease in Australia, and of that population, 20% are of working age with 10% under 50 years of age.

The signs can be subtle (and widely varied) in the early days and potentially ignored or misinterpreted.

Some people note a change in muscle tone - dystopia, which may be exercise induced, changes in muscle strength or coordination, or other signs such a fatigue, mood, gastrointestinal and sleep changes

Early diagnosis is soooo very important as exercise prescription is really important - the leading intervention for Parkinsons is exercise therapy.

A multi disciplinary approach is so important - physiotherapist, GP, occupational therapist, neurologist, speech therapist etc.

This month is April Falls Month and the theme is ‘Better Balance for Fall Prevention’. Unlike an April Fools’ Day joke, a fall is no laughing matter. 37% of injury-related deaths are caused by falls and 30% of those aged 65 and over fall each year.

Month is the NSW Fall Prevention & Healthy Ageing Network's annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of falls and to promote fall prevention strategies.

During this month, we’ll be sharing information on the health and economic impacts of falls, as well as on how physiotherapy is vital in preventing falls and helping to care for those who suffer a fall.

If you’d like to learn more about this year’s campaign, head to: https://fallsnetwork.neura.edu.au/aprilfalls/
