🦷📢 DENTAL HEALTH WEEK 📢🦷

DAY 5- Va**ng

What is in va**ng liquid?

The liquid inside an e-cigarette is called va**ng liquid or e-liquid. Va**ng liquids contain harmful chemicals. The heating, cooling and ageing process inside the e-cigarette can affect the chemicals in the va**ng liquid. The v**e and the coil that heats the liquid can also break down over time. This can cause you to breathe in heavy metals and microplastics.

E-cigarettes contain toxic chemicals including:

heavy metals
volatile organic compounds
cancer-causing chemicals.
You are breathing in the same harmful chemicals found in:

cleaning products
nail polish remover
w**d killer
bug spray.
Australian researchers looked at 65 v**es and found none of the labels listed all ingredients included in the e-liquids.

Many e-cigarettes include ni****ne even when it is not listed on the label as an ingredient.

How can va**ng affect my mouth?

Va**ng is harmful to the health of your body and mouth. Research on non-cigarette smokers has shown effects of e-cigarettes in the mouth. Effects can include:

a dry mouth
a burning feeling
mouth irritation
bad taste
bad breath
pain
gum disease
changes to the soft tissues that cover the inside of the mouth
the top surface of your tongue becomes black.

🦷📢 DENTAL HEALTH WEEK 📢🦷

DAY 4- WISDOM TEETH

Wisdom teeth usually appear between the ages of 18 and 25. As they come through, they can cause pain, swelling, infections or crowding, especially if there isn’t enough space in the mouth.

You may be tempted to wait until the pain becomes severe before seeing a dentist, but it's far better to come in earlier. A dentist can check how your wisdom teeth are developing and spot issues before they turn into infections or emergencies. Dental Health Week is all about helping you understand the symptoms, timing and risks associated with untreated wisdom teeth problems.

Call us today on 40616208 to schedule a wisdom tooth consult, with onsite opg imaging.

🦷📢 DENTAL HEALTH WEEK 📢🦷

DAY 3- Cosmetic Dentistry;

Cosmetic dentistry is becoming more common, especially if you're someone who wants a brighter or straighter smile. But with so many treatments promoted online, like whitening, veneers and at‑home aligners, it can be hard to know what’s safe and what might damage your teeth. Making choices without the right information can lead to long‑term problems for both your teeth and gums.

While cosmetic treatments often improve your smile, they are still health procedures which need proper planning and care from a qualified dentist. Whether you’re thinking about whitening, straightening or changing the shape of your teeth, having the right facts helps you make decisions that protect your smile now and in the future.

🦷 📢 DENTAL HEALTH WEEK 📢 🦷

DAY 2- SPORTS DRINKS

Sports and energy drinks might seem like the go‑to option when you’re active, but they’re usually high in sugar and very acidic. This combination can wear away tooth enamel and increase your risk of decay. Dehydration can also dry out your mouth, which raises the risk of gum disease, decay and tooth wear. You're far better to stay hydrated with water which is the safest choice for your teeth.

‼️ Ingredients to look out for ‼️

One quick way to work out whether what you are drinking is beneficial to your dental and overall health is to be familiar with the nutritional label located on the side of the drink.

Sports drinks often contain added sugar and ingredients that cause the drink to have a low pH, making it acidic. Drinking these types of drinks regularly can cause damage to your teeth over time. Sugary drinks can cause tooth decay while acidic drinks can cause tooth erosion.

In the list of ingredients, sources of sugar may be listed as:
sugar
glucose
dextrose
fruit juice concentrate
cane sugar.
Ingredients that can make the drink acidic include:
citric acid
sodium benzoate
sodium citrate.

🦷 📢 Dental Health Week 2026 📢 🦷

DAY 1- MOUTH-GUARDS

Did you know that playing high‑impact or contact sports without a mouthguard can result in serious injuries involving broken or chipped teeth, nerve damage, jaw injuries or even losing a tooth altogether. These injuries often don't come with quick fixes, and they can lead to years, sometimes decades, of ongoing dental treatment. Fortunately, many injuries are entirely preventable with a custom-fit mouthguard created by your dentist.

Call us today on 40616208 to arrange an appointment to have your custom fitted mouthguard made.
