Here you can see how dry needling can be used as part of a broader podiatry treatment plan when clinically appropriate. We promise it’s not as scary as it looks (just ask Janelle!) and most patients tolerate it really well. It can be a great tool for stubborn tightness or overactive muscles 💪🏼

Hellooo everybody! 👋🏼 Wow, it’s been a minute! We thought it was about time we jumped back on here and got things up and running again. And in case you didn’t know, we’ve moved!! 🏠 We might be operating from a new home base with some different faces on our team, but we’re still the same The Foot & Ankle Specialists that you know and love! ❤️🦶🏽

You can now find us on the corner of Warwick Road and Moffatt Street, with Warwick Medical and Peak-A-Do Hair as our corner neighbours and the Ipswich Showgrounds just down the road! Our little car park and entrance to reception is off Moffatt Street, but there’s also street parking if that’s full 🚗

What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is the use of an acupuncture needle for deactivation of a myofascial trigger point or knot in the muscle which should stimulate a healing response in that tissue.

What is Myofascial Pain?
Myofascial pain is a dysfunction in the muscle that produces local and referred pain. It is characterized by a taut or hard band within the muscle and tenderness and referred pain.It is a treatable condition that can respond well to needling but it is also essential to address any underlying issues which may be causing the muscles to knot in the first place.

What is a Trigger Point?
• Pain related to a discrete, irritable point in muscle or fascia, not caused by acute local trauma or inflammation
• The painful point can be felt as a band in the muscle
• Palpation of the trigger point reproduces the patient's complaint of pain

Foot Mobilisation Therapy or FMT is another alternative therapy that we have on offer. FMT is aimed at restructuring your foot over a period of time so it is able to function dynamically from a normal alignment. Think of it like chiropractic on your feet.

How does FMT work?
1. Aims to restore normal joint range of motion by breaking up collagen cross linkages
2. Decreases the pain signals
3. Aims to restore normal joint position and hold the position through the exercises performed
4. Re-establishes joint range of motion
5. Increases sense of balance and stability

What problems can FMT help to resolve?
1. Heel pain
2. Ankle pain
3. Joint pain and reduced joint range of motion
4. Balance problems
