Major National Announcement: Be Part of the Expanded Disability Conference & Expo Series

We know many people across our sector are working hard during a period of significant change and uncertainty. In response, we are making an important announcement that creates new opportunities to support the community as disability services continue to evolve.

With major funding reform and legislative change now underway, many participants and organisations are facing increased pressure. We want to share clear information about the changes ahead and the opportunities they create.

1. Each expo in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, and Brisbane will now include a two-day state conference, bringing together government, agencies, stakeholders, and disability organisations to share updates and address key challenges during this period of reform.

2. An expression of interest will open for organisations already booked for our rescheduled events, as well as new participants, inviting sector leaders to speak, present, share solutions, and help identify practical opportunities during the transition.

3. Each event will also include a full-day, think tank-style workshop series for disability, provider, and industry leaders to identify key challenges and practical solutions, with reports to be shared with government and the sector.

4. Before the expo, we plan to deliver a full-day conference and panel event that is accessible and focused on practical outcomes.

5. With support from sponsors and agencies, we also plan to deliver an industry awards night and gala to recognise leadership across the sector and create space to connect and celebrate the work being done during a time of major change.

6. Our Sydney event has been postponed to 23–24 October 2026. We will continue updating exhibitors and sponsors and invite everyone involved to register their interest in the expanded state conference and industry awards gala.

QDN at Hearing for NDIS Amendment Bill.

QDN CEO Michelle Moss spoke yesterday at the NDIS Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 hearing. This is being conducted by the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee.

There will be three days of hearings on this bill and yesterday was the first day. Michelle was the first witness to receive questions from Committee Chair, Labor Senator Karen Grogan, as well as Greens Senator, Jordon Steele-John, Liberal Senator Wendy Askew and Labor Senator Michelle Ananda-Rajah.

Michelle spoke about the key points of QDN’s submission including:
- amending the Bill to ensure safeguards for people with disability.
- retain whole of assessment principles
- address concerns about the increased ministerial powers and loss of co-governance with states and territories
- help ensure alternative systems of supports are in place before the changes are introduced
- engage and co-design with the disability community, their carers, families and disability organisations as reform takes place.
