What you do in the weeks before your facelift can have real impact on your results. Skin preparation is something we take seriously here. In the lead up to surgery, we focus on building a strong healthy skin barrier so your skin is in the best possible condition to heal.

That means getting on top of your hydration, your SPF and the right active ingredients like vitamin A and vitamin C well ahead of time. On the medical side we ask patients to stop smoking, avoid alcohol and stop supplements and medications that can increase bleeding or impact healing.

These steps are not complicated but they make a real difference on how your operation goes and how you recover.

The rise of the 'AI face'

After social media filters and celebrity snaps, a new visual ideal has entered the consultation room.

AI-generated images are joining facial cosmetic plastic surgery consultation and raising concerns.

These images visualise ideal results but are often physiologically impossible and set unrealistic and dangerous expectations.

To appreciate what is truly achievable start with a facial assessment with a specialist plastic surgeon who is experienced, qualified, understands anatomy and human variation in healing, ageing, symmetry and feasible surgical outcomes.

So, what's the right age for a facelift?

The answer might surprise you. There is no single optimal age.

What matters more are the structural changes that are happening to the face, the elasticity of the skin, the sagging of the tissues, the loss of definition along the jawline and other areas of the face.

People age differently. Genetics, lifestyle, medical history, they all play a role.

Some patients notice heaviness in the brow and eyelids first. Others see jowling or deepening folds around the mouth.

What we do know is that waiting until the concerns become very severe can actually work against you. The quality and integrity of the tissue at the time of surgery has a direct impact on the result.

Earlier is not always better and leaving it for too long is not the right answer too. Consultation will help us find that window for you.

Teaching, Anatomy Education & Public Hospital Roles

A significant part of Dr Teixeira’s professional work is teaching anatomy and applying it to aesthetic practice. He is a faculty member of the Mendelson Advanced Facial Anatomy Course (MAFAC), where advanced facial anatomy is taught in a surgical context. This reflects a core part of his practice philosophy: everything in facial surgery ultimately comes back to anatomy. With a background in plastic surgery and craniofacial surgery, he brings a detailed understanding of facial structure, support, movement, and tissue layers to both teaching and clinical practice. Dr Teixeira is also a faculty member of the ASAPS Anatomy for Injectors (AFI) workshop.

Dr Teixeira remains actively involved in public hospital work, surgical education, and academic teaching in Melbourne. He continues reconstructive facial surgery work at The Royal Children’s Hospital and teaching involvement through the University of Melbourne. He previously served as Head of the Plastic Surgery Unit at Northern Health.

Mini rhytidectomy (facelift) or deep plane?

How do you know which one is the right for you?

The main difference comes down to how much of the face we treat and how many of the deeper ligaments we release.

A mini lift targets a specific area of the face, often the mid face or the lower face. It's a great option for the right patient, but it may not address the areas just above or beside it, areas that could also benefit from treatment.

The deep plane goes further. It lifts more comprehensively, releasing more of the key facial ligaments, which allow us to create changes that look more balanced and proportional across the face. It can also extend into the neck for more comprehensive treatment.

The right choice really depends on your anatomy and your goals, and that's exactly what we work through during the consultation.
