ewcastle Aquatic Physiotherapy is registered with Fitness Australia and recognised by many health funds as a fitness facility. Physiotherapy is a Health Care Profession concerned with human function and movement. Every year we help hundreds of people manage the effects of illness, accidents, disability and the stresses and strains of everyday life. Physiotherapists use a combination of manual, electro and exercise therapy in an effort to alleviate the pain and restriction of an individual’s particular condition. Common problems that can benefit from physiotherapy are:
• joint replacements and reconstructions
• stroke and neurological disorders
• multitrauma and brain injuries
• back and neck pain
• fractures
• muscle tears and ligament sprains
• balance and mobility problems
• osteo and rheumatoid arthritis
• joint and disc injuries
• musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction
• sports injuries

Our treatment rooms are separate to our gym and hydrotherapy areas for your privacy and convenience. Your physiotherapist will assess your needs after taking a history of your problem and running you through an individual assessment. He/she will then prescribe the appropriate treatment protocol for you to achieve the best possible outcome or recovery time. Private patients can self refer to our Practice for therapy or you can be referred by your GP. Workers Compensation, Third Party and Department of Veteran’s Affairs patients will require a Doctor’s referral.

Did you know that 26% of transgender and non-binary people in Australia have reported discrimination when trying to access healthcare?
Twenty-six per cent.
That means more than one in four people walking into a clinic — already vulnerable, already asking for help — have been turned away, dismissed, or treated with less than the dignity they deserve.
That statistic stopped us in our tracks when we read it. And it's a big part of why we do what we do at Newcastle Aquatic Physiotherapy.
We want to be a place where that number means something. Where it changes. Where LGBTQ+ people can walk through our doors and just... be cared for. No questions about who you are. No judgment about how you present. Just good, human, wholehearted care.
Because everyone deserves that. Not just some people. Everyone. 💙

8 hours… but still tired?
You know those nights where you do everything “right”…
Get your 7–8 hours.
Go to bed at a reasonable time.
And then you wake up feeling like you’ve been hit by a bus.
Not dramatic. Just… flat. Heavy. Foggy.
We see this a lot.
And what we’re learning more and more is this —
it’s not just about how long you sleep.
It’s about whether your body actually recovers while you’re asleep.
That feeling of not being refreshed?
It’s got a name now. And it matters.
Not in a scary way.
Just in a “hey, let’s pay attention to this” kind of way.
Because your body’s pretty clever.
It’ll whisper before it shouts.
💛 If this sounds like you, we’ve written a blog that explains it in a really simple, real way.

😴 Still Feeling Tired After a Full Night’s Sleep?

Sarah has written a new blog exploring why waking up tired isn’t always something to brush off.
While occasional fatigue is normal, regularly feeling exhausted after what should be a good night’s sleep may be a sign that something else is going on. From sleep quality and lifestyle factors to underlying health conditions, there are many reasons why you might not be waking up refreshed.

Welcome back to Jesmond Gallery🎨
Blink and you’ll probably miss her.
Sinead brings the kind of energy that lifts a whole room.
Always moving. Always thinking. Always finding one more thing she can do to help someone feel supported.
Somehow she fits encouragement, laughs, rehab, problem-solving, and about 14 extra steps into every session — all with a huge smile on her face.
(We’re still not convinced she actually walks anywhere.)

Not every take made the final cut… and honestly, we think this one deserved its own spotlight 🤭🎬

After weeks of our Kitchen Classics series — showing you simple exercises to do while waiting for the kettle to boil, the microwave to beep, or dinner to cook — we’re wrapping things up with a little behind-the-scenes blooper from Sarah 😂

Because movement doesn’t have to be perfect… and neither do we 💙

Thanks for following along with the series! Which kitchen exercise was your favourite? 👇

Welcome back to Jesmond Gallery🎨
You know when someone says, “How are you?” And you just say “good” because that’s what we do? Sam doesn’t let you get away with that. He pauses.
He looks at you properly. And he waits. Because how you’re really going matters. Not just your knee. Not just your balance. Not just your program. The listening. The space. The quiet care. That’s the good stuff. And that kind of care? It changes things.

This is Neil after his recent Botox in his upper limbs. While his muscles are relaxed, he is using the opportunity to practise creating new movement pathways in his brain, through movement retraining with both arms (bilateral limb use). This is great for neuroplasticity; the brain's amazing capacity to rewire itself and form new connections. We enjoy thinking outside the box at NAP.

As a result, there will be no Aquacise class running that afternoon.

We appreciate your understanding as we take some time to connect, learn, and celebrate our amazing team ✨

Boiling the kettle? Perfect time to test your balance.
Stand on one leg while you wait.
That’s it.
Sounds simple… until it’s not.
Balance is one of those things we don’t think about — until we need it.
So this? This is you investing early. Quietly building confidence in your body.
And if it feels wobbly? Good. That’s where the magic is.

Try 20–30 seconds each side next time the kettle’s on.

Something a little different from me today — but really, really important.

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about what it actually means to take care of our clients. Yes, the hydrotherapy. Yes, the hands-on treatment. But also the stuff that happens behind the scenes — like keeping your personal information safe.

I recently received a cybersecurity grant through the Hunter New England & Central Coast Primary Health Network, and honestly? It opened my eyes. I'd heard some pretty scary stories from other practice owners — data stolen, records held for ransom — and I had this uncomfortable moment of realising I didn't actually know if I was doing everything I could to protect you.

So I applied. And I'm so glad I did.

What I learned and put in place through that grant has genuinely lifted the bar for how we operate at Newcastle Aquatic Physiotherapy. And last week I was invited onto the stage at the PHN Allied Health Conference to talk about the whole experience — which was equal parts nerve-wracking and wonderful.

You trust us with your body. You trust us with your health. And you trust us with your information. We don't take any of that lightly.

Just wanted you to know — we're always working to be better, even in the places you can't see.
