Last week we had another wonderful evening connecting with local health and community professionals through the Mental Health Professionals Network (MHPN) Northern Suburbs.
It was a privilege to coordinate this event and welcome Owen Robinson, who shared an important presentation on:
"When FDV Doesn't Fit the Script: Clinical Blind Spots, Coercive Control, and How Family and Domestic Violence Presents Across Diverse Mental Health Settings."
Owen Robinson is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and psychotherapist with more than 25 years’ experience in mental health, trauma recovery and clinical practice.
The discussion highlighted how complex family and domestic violence can be, the importance of recognising the signs, listening to lived experiences and ensuring people receive support that is safe, respectful and person-centred.
At SNG Healthcare Solutions, we are passionate about being connected with our community, supporting ongoing education and working alongside other professionals to improve outcomes for people accessing mental health, disability and nursing supports.

As a healthcare and disability support provider, we are committed to delivering culturally safe, respectful, and person-centred services that recognise the unique strengths, traditions, and perspectives of First Nations peoples and communities. This week is a reminder to listen, learn, and continue working towards a more respectful and inclusive future. Fact: This misconception grew from a time when people with disabilities were often separated in schools, workplaces, and communities. Today, many people with disabilities actively participate in mainstream society, building friendships, careers, and connections just like everyone else.

💬Our SNG Healthcare Inclusion Insight; Breaking the Stigma Around Disability
Many people living with disability have shared that they don’t want to be placed on a pedestal or called “inspirational” simply for living their everyday lives. They’ve shared that their everyday life doesn’t need to be turned into something “exceptional” and that labels like this can sometimes feel uncomfortable or reduce them to a single story. At the heart of what many people say is simple:
"See us as people first.”
Not heroes.
Not objects of pity.
Not inspiration for just existing.
We are all individuals “trying to live our lives as ordinarily as we can, with many of us working, contributing, struggling, and thriving like everyone else.”
✨ True inclusion is being seen as equals.
✨ Equality is dignity, respect, and humanity.
✨ Change starts with how we see and speak about disability.
At SNG Healthcare Solutions, we believe in listening, learning, and moving beyond stereotypes toward real inclusion.
