Yesterday we welcomed Emily Hamilton MLA, Member for Joondalup to our stroke unit, to build awareness for National Stroke Week (3-9 August). Our stroke unit has 30 beds, a bespoke therapy gym and functional training activities.

Our stroke unit treats over 300 patients annually, allowing more northern suburbs patients to be treated and rehabilitated by highly trained stroke specialists closer to home.

To celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day, today we handed out gift bags to children in the Telethon Children's ward and Emergency Department. The bags contained a book, boomerang painting kit, bookmarks and fidget toys.

The team were also joined by Cherie Slater, a Badimia Yamatji Wadjuk Noongar woman, who sings songs in language. Cherie also spoke to the children in language, teaching them to count.

Celebrating different cultural days is an important part of showing the community that Joondalup Health Campus is a culturally safe place for all.

The Telethon Children’s Ward team have celebrated National Pyjama Day, wearing colourful and fun pyjamas to work in support of children and young people in care. 🎒

The team’s long history of participating in the event coincides with their annual collection of Care Bags - because children in care matter

Staff from across the hospital prepare Care Bag, as individuals or teams, to support children in care and at risk in Western Australia and help them to feel valued and know they matter.

Anyone in the community can build a Care Bag. Details are outlined on the CareBags website. https://brnw.ch/21x4omm

The WA Health Translation Network and JHC's Research Department has launched a survey seeking to gain consumer insight into priorities for mental health research.

If you have lived or carer experience of mental health challenges, or experience of mental health services, in Perth’s northern suburbs please participate in this survey https://brnw.ch/21x4mqV

The survey asks people what they think should be the top priority for mental health research to improve care in Perth’s northern suburbs. It takes around 5 minutes to complete.
