This is a beautiful one-minute animation that illustrates the idea of reparenting. Reparenting is the practice of meeting our own unmet childhood needs with compassion, care and understanding. And this work isn't about blaming or criticising the generations before us. It’s about gently noticing patterns, understanding where they come from, and continuing the nurturing that every human being needs.

"SEEN: The Film" is a beautiful documentary about parenting, a grounded and compassionate exploration of how our own experiences, patterns and beliefs shape the way we show up with our kids. The more we're willing to reflect on ourselves and our templates (experiences of growing up in our families of origin) with honesty and compassion, the more space we create for different choices and new patterns.

It's never too late to pause, reflect and do things differently. Definitely worth a watch. You can get a free screening through Parenting Connection WA here: https://parentingconnectionwa.com.au/event/seenge/ or stream on Prime Video, Apple TV or Google Movies.

Something I always tell people who are starting therapy is this: not every therapist is going to feel like the right fit. And that includes me too.

Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all experience. What really matters is the relationship you build with your therapist, what's often called the therapeutic alliance. Research consistently shows that this alliance is the biggest factor in whether therapy is helpful. More so than specific modalities and techniques or the years of training (all of which are incredibly valuable in their own right).

It's critical to build a solid foundation of feeling safe, understood and supported. Feel free to reach out if you're curious about whether I'm the therapist for you 😊

One of the things I want to do with this page is to demystify and destigmatise the therapy process. In this post I want to share a few thoughts about the first session, which can be a bit nerve-wracking!

There's a common and sometimes unspoken assumption that a person comes to therapy, presents a "problem", and the therapist "fixes" it. That's not always the case!

Yes, you might seek therapy for support through mental health struggles like stress, anxiety or depression. But the things that cause you pain develop in the context of your life, your relationships, your history, your environment.

That’s why our first session isn’t just a forensic deep dive into what’s "wrong." It’s about getting a sense of your world. What’s it like to be you? What are the systems you’re a part of, e.g. family, work, community? What are the stories you tell about yourself? As a social worker, this is what we call the ‘person-in-environment’ perspective.

We can’t understand the person without understanding their world.

Hi everyone, I've been a bit quiet on this page for the past week as I had the honour of travelling to Canberra for the inaugural headspace National Early Career Awards 😁

It was a huge surprise and a real privilege to receive the award for Outstanding Contribution of a Graduate Alumni. For those who might not know, I wear two hats at the moment. Alongside my work here at Red Earth Counselling, I work part-time as a Clinical Educator, supporting university students from social work, occupational therapy, and psychology through their placements here in the Goldfields.

It was the headspace Early Career Program that supported me to make the move from Sydney to Kalgoorlie back in 2023, and I’m so proud to still be part of their network, working to build our local mental health workforce capacity. It's work I'm incredibly passionate about.

It was a wonderful event at the National Portrait Gallery, and great to connect with people from all over the country doing this vital work. I had the chance to meet headspace CEO Jason Trethowan, and you can be sure I took the opportunity to encourage the Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Su***de Prevention, Emma McBride, to come and visit us in Kalgoorlie! She's very passionate about rural health, and it's so important that our region's voice is heard.

Feeling very grateful and re-energised to continue supporting our community 😊

A core idea in family therapy is that a family is a system. Think of one of those hanging mobiles, like this beautiful one by Alexander Calder called “Boomerangs.” If you touch one part of the mobile, or if there’s a sudden gust of wind, all the other parts move too. No single person is the "problem." Instead, we look at the patterns, the communication styles, and the roles that everyone plays.

By understanding the whole system, we can find new ways to interact and support each other, creating healthier and more connected relationships for everyone involved. It’s a shift from "fixing" a person to healing a dynamic 😊

Sometimes it’s just nice to have a cuppa and a chat with people who get it.

We’re trialling a casual Friends of Full Circle Parents Catch-Up at Full Circle Therapies - a relaxed space to connect with other parents, share experiences, or simply sit and chat if you feel like it.

These sessions are hosted by Gabby, who’s happy to answer questions, talk NDIS if that’s helpful or just be there for a friendly conversation. There’s no pressure, no agenda and nothing you need to prepare.

Little ones are very welcome to come along and play in our new Therapy Garden and Playground while parents sit together.

📣 FREE Circle of Security Parenting Program starts NEXT TUESDAY 10 February 2026 📣

Circle of Security is an internationally recognised, evidence-based program that uses a simple visual map to help caregivers understand attachment and what children need from them. It supports a child’s need to explore the world (“go out”) and to return for comfort and safety (“come back in”), with the caregiver acting as both a Secure Base and a Safe Haven. The program is designed for caregivers of children 0-5 years, though the principles are helpful for all children.
