Celebrating 50 years of NAIDOC Week ❤️🖤💛

This NAIDOC Week, we were honoured to welcome staff from St Vincent's Private Hospital Northside, St Vincent's Private Hospital Toowoomba, and St Vincent's Care to our Art Shell for the launch of the Deadly 50 exhibition.

As we celebrate 50 years of National NAIDOC Week, this year's theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," honours the achievements of the past while looking ahead to the future, recognising the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the generations who will continue to lead, inspire and create lasting change.

The exhibition features 50 powerful portraits and stories of First Nations employees from across St Vincent's Health Australia, celebrating the knowledge, compassion and leadership they bring to patient care, community wellbeing and our shared mission every day. Together, these stories honour where our First Nations staff come from, who they are today and the strength we continue to build for the future.

The morning began with a Welcome to Country from Uncle David Miller, an esteemed Elder and former Queensland National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council (NATSICC) representative. Guests then heard reflections from Darlene Dreise, Group Manager Reconciliation.

We were also privileged to hear from Queensland First Nations employees Annette Stevenson, Wade Jackson, Courtney Moy, Josh, and Asunta Garling, who each shared what Deadly means to them and reflected on the importance of culture, identity and connection.

Guests also enjoyed a performance by Taleatha Wright-Morgan, before coming together over refreshments featuring native Australian ingredients, including jam drops made with emu eggs and freshly baked scones served with homemade bush plum jam from Figjam & Co.

As we mark this significant milestone, we proudly acknowledge the enduring strength, wisdom and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, celebrate our First Nations colleagues, and reaffirm our commitment to listening, learning and walking together towards reconciliation.

Talking about bowel health isn't always easy, but it could save a life.

This Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, we welcomed the team from Omnigon to St Vincent's Private Hospital Northside to help raise awareness about bowel cancer, stoma care and the importance of having open conversations about our health.

Too often, embarrassment or stigma can delay people from seeking advice or participating in routine bowel cancer screening. By sharing knowledge, answering questions and encouraging honest conversations, we can help break down those barriers and empower more people to prioritise their health.

A big thank you to the Omnigon team for supporting our staff and visitors with valuable education and resources.

Together, we're helping make conversations about bowel health a little easier.

💙 If you're eligible, don't put off your bowel cancer screening. It could make all the difference!

St Vincent's Private Hospital Brisbane on the silver screen! 🎬

We're excited to share a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Two Years Later, now streaming on Paramount+.

Parts of the series were filmed at St Vincent's Private Hospital Brisbane, with our hospital providing the backdrop for several scenes featured throughout the Australian production.

The connection is especially meaningful for our St Vincent's family, with director Lucy Gaffy having a personal connection to our campus through her mum, who is a resident at St Vincent's Care Services Brisbane, located alongside our hospital.

We're proud to support Australian storytelling and the creative arts, and delighted to see a familiar part of our community featured on screen.

Sometimes the most meaningful moments in a hospital happen outside its walls💜

In this deeply moving story, Elyse shares how the Sr Nola Riley Garden at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane became a place of connection for her family, where her dad Michael was gently walked down the aisle in a transfer bed chair before he passed away.

Years later, that same moment was shared on Elyse’s wedding day, a powerful reminder that healing can happen under open skies, in gardens, and in spaces that hold us when we need it most.

Through the Kangaroo Point Healing Spaces Appeal, supported by St Vincent's Foundation Queensland, you can help renew the gardens and outdoor spaces that mean so much to our hospital patients, aged care residents, families and staff.

A gift to this appeal helps create precious moments of rest, connection and renewal beside the Brisbane River.

Reconciliation Week

Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to reflect on how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in Australia.*

Held annually from 27 May to 3 June, National Reconciliation Week encourages Australians to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and histories, while considering the role we all play in building respectful relationships and stronger communities.

This year’s theme, “All In,” is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day. It serves as a reminder that reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility and that we all have a role to play in advancing the rights and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Throughout the week, staff are encouraged to reflect on their own commitment to reconciliation both within the workplace and in the broader community. Together, we can help foster communities that value and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.

National Volunteers Week 💜

It's National Volunteer Week; our opportunity to celebrate and recognise the incredible contribution of our volunteers at St Vincent's Private Hospital Brisbane.

This year’s National Volunteer Week theme “Your year to Volunteer” encourages us to reflect on the power of volunteering to bring people together, strengthen communities and enrich lives.

To mark the occasion, our volunteers enjoyed a morning tea and heard from Oli Steele, CEO QLD Private Hospitals, Marlena Kussrow, General Manager and Director of Clinical services Brisbane, Stacey Graham, Volunteer Coordinator, and Sister Clare Nolan, who each expressed their gratitude and acknowledged the incredible contribution our volunteers make every day.

From guiding patients and escorting visitors around the hospital, supporting our palliative care patients, and packing information packs for the wards, to simply offering a warm smile during a time of uncertainty, our volunteers continue to make a meaningful difference to the experience of patients, families and staff alike.

This National Volunteers Week, we extend a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful volunteers for all that you do, always. You are truly the backbone of our hospital.
