đź‘‹ New here?

We've welcomed quite a few new faces lately, so we thought it was time for a reintroduction. Let us introduce/reintroduce ourselves.

Karratha Eyecare is a locally owned and operated independent optometry practice, founded in 2019 by colleagues and friends, Alex and Mack.

From day one, we've had a simple philosophy: we don't say no.

That means we'll work with you to find solutions for your eye health issues, no matter how straightforward or complex your situation may be. In fact, we love a challenge and relish the complex cases!

Our patient-first approach means our focus is on helping you achieve the best possible outcome. That's why we've invested in advanced equipment and technology, which allows us to deliver a broad range of services right here in Karratha - services that you would often expect to travel to Perth for.

As locals ourselves, we understand just how inconvenient that travel can be.

And that's the perfect segue to another thing that makes us different: we work in partnership with your local GPs and a network of ophthalmologists to manage your eye conditions, including offering post-treatment or post-op care and follow up, and telehealth services with your specialists - saving you time and unnecessary trips to the big smoke.

Whether you're new to Karratha, looking for a new optometrist, or simply wanting to learn more about your eye health, we'd love to have you here.

Follow us and see the difference independent optometry can make. 👓✨

Years ago, residents with complex eye health care needs had to travel to Perth just for basic care.

As anyone knows, having to travel for health care is an inconvenience and just because you live above the 26th parallel it doesn't mean you don't deserve the best.

Providing regional residents with the same access to top-level eye health care is one of the reasons why Karratha Eyecare exists. Being an independent optometrist means we can decide what type of tech and equipment we invest in so that your complex eye care needs can be met without an expensive airfare and a 4000km round trip.

Every eye exam with us goes beyond basic vision testing. We do a complete eye check-up including your cornea, your retina, peripheral vision and scans for underlying eye conditions. And we also give extra time to discuss any concerns you might have and solutions to any eye health challenges you're facing.

So whether you have:

👉🏼 complex prescription
👉🏼 glaucoma
👉🏼 cataracts
👉🏼 macular degeneration
👉🏼 keratoconus
👉🏼 diabetic retinopathy
👉🏼 inherited retinal diseases
👉🏼 Fuchs’ endothelial dystrophy
👉🏼 Strabismus and ptosis

Or anything not listed here, give us a call on 9143 0037 or see us at 1/5 Warambie Road to discuss how we can support you.

Myth: Computer glasses are only for computer work.

Myth Busted!

Modern life involves much more than just screens. Whether you're working at your desk, reading documents, crafting,

near distances.

Rodenstock Ergo® lenses are ideal for:
âś” Computer and laptop use
âś” Reading and paperwork
âś” Creative hobbies and crafts
âś” Meetings and presentations
âś” Everyday near and intermediate tasks

Don't let tired eyes become part of your daily routine. Ask us about Rodenstock Ergo® lenses (and our Ergo Mouse promotion).

When you book with an independent practice, you’re working with a team that answers to you - not to a head office in Sydney or Melbourne.

In a major city, that might just be a preference. In a regional community like Karratha, it shapes what’s actually available to you: the equipment we invest in, the time we spend on appointments, the decisions we make about your care.

We’re here because we believe this community deserves the same standard of eye care as anywhere else in Australia. That’s not a marketing line. It’s why we show up.

For any questions, call us on 9143 0037 or find us online at www.karrathaeyecare.com.au.

In Perth, winter means staying in. In the Pilbara, it’s when the place truly opens up.

Fishing, camping, four-wheel driving, long days outdoors in the lovely winter sun - this is the season locals live for.

But when it's winter in the Pilbara, UV doesn’t take the season off, which is why we always recommend wearing sunnies all year round.

ICYMI: we now are Maui Jim stockists! Not only do they provide comprehensive protection from UV rays, they also enhance your vision so you can continue enjoying your favourite outdoor activities.

We're located at 1/5 Warambie Road, Karratha so drop in any time between Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm to try on our range of Maui Jims.

We're proud to be your local independent optometrist, offering tailored eye health care to residents of Karratha.

We spend extra time in each appointment to ensure that when you walk out of our rooms, you know more about your eyes than when you came in.

Thanks to everyone who continues to support us - every time you choose Karratha Eyecare, you're ensuring that regional communities have access to independent optometry.

Optometrists are being pressured to hit sales targets, rush consults and turn away clinical appointments during peak spending periods at multi-million dollar optometry chains that their employees say prioritise profits over health.

The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald has reviewed more than 80 internal reports and correspondence that expose the corporate business models of optometry brands selling out patients.

If your private health insurance benefits reset on 1 July, that means you can update your glasses or restock your contacts!

For those with optical extras, we accept most major private health providers, and your optical benefits cover:
→ frames (sunnies and regular glasses)
→ prescription lenses (single vision, bifocal, progressive and multifocal)
→ prescription contact lenses

At Karratha Eyecare we value quality above all else, so you know that when you buy your frames and lenses from us, they're built to last (and if they have a fault, or you run into an accident, ask us about our warranties).

Come see us at 1/5 Warambie Road, Karratha or call us on 08 9143 0037 to find out how we can help you pick the right pair of glasses.

July is Dry Eye Awareness Month. It’s a condition we think about a lot here, because the Pilbara environment is genuinely one of the most demanding for eye health.

Low humidity. Wind. Dust that gets into everything. Long hours outdoors or long hours in air-conditioned spaces (often both in the same day).

It’s a combination that works directly against your eyes.

The tricky thing about dry eye is that it doesn’t always feel like its name suggests. Watery eyes, light sensitivity, blurry vision that clears when you blink - these are classic dry eye symptoms that are easy to dismiss or attribute to something else.

Left untreated, dry eye can cause real, long-term damage to the surface of the eye.

The good news is that it’s very manageable when properly assessed and treated. We have the equipment and clinical experience to go well beyond recommending eye drops.

Swipe through for more on what’s actually happening when your eyes feel like this, and what proper treatment looks like.

Call us on 08 9143 0037 or book online.

The school holidays are here, making it one of the best times to bring kids in for an eye test.

There's no rushing before school, no time pressure, and if glasses are needed, they’ll be sorted before Term 3 starts.

Research from Optometry Australia indicates that up to one in five children has an undetected vision problem. Children don’t know what normal vision looks like, so they rarely report a problem - they just adapt. And adapting can look a lot like struggling, switching off, or acting out in class.

Kids’ eye tests are bulk-billed, quick, and genuinely enjoyable for most little ones. We use picture-based charts for younger children, go at their pace, and yes, stickers are very much available.

Book online or call us on 08 9143 0037.

This week, as we mark NAIDOC Week, we want to acknowledge the Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi people, the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and operate.

Karratha is a community we’re privileged to be part of. That’s not something we take for granted.

As a patient-centric, community-first small business, we understand the importance of delivering essential health services to the residents of Karratha, including our First Nations people.

That's why since day 1 we have partnered with Lions Outback Vision and Karratha Health Campus to provide primary health services to all members of our community.

Our commitment to accessible, quality eye care here is shaped in no small part by this place and the people in it. If you or someone in your family has been putting off an eye test, we’d love to hear from you. We’ll find a way to make it work.
