Did you know that the foods that suit one person may not suit another—or that the way you prepare your food can be just as important as what you eat?

Chinese medicine encourages us to eat in harmony with the seasons while also considering our individual constitution. Someone who always feels cold may benefit from warming foods and longer cooking methods, while someone who tends to feel hot may need lighter, more cooling choices.

This blog explores how to choose foods and cooking styles that support your body, digestion and energy throughout the year: https://www.orientalwisdom.com.au/2021/08/14/great-tips-on-how-to-eat-for-the-seasons-and-your-body-type/

If you’d like to explore these ideas more deeply, join me for The Art of Nourishment: Support Your Energy, Digestion & Emotional Harmony on Sunday 30 August in Katoomba.

There’s only a few days left to take advantage of the early-bird price, ending 13 August. Come along for a practical and nourishing day of Chinese medicine wisdom, seasonal food, gentle Qigong and simple tools you can confidently use at home. Tania is off to Melbourne!

She’ll be away from the clinic from 6–11 August to attend the Australasian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association Conference.

She's excited to be presenting The Art of Guiding Self-Care Conversations in Clinic—a talk inspired by the seasonal self-care workshops and resources that many of you have helped bring to life over the past two years.

She's looking forward to sharing these ideas with Chinese medicine practitioners from across Australia—and enjoying a little time exploring Melbourne while there.

Tania will be back in clinic as usual on Wednesday 12 August.

And if you’d like to experience some of these self-care principles for yourself, her next workshop, The Art of Nourishment: Support Your Energy, Digestion & Emotional Harmony, will be held in Katoomba on Sunday 30 August. Early bird bookings close 13 August—just after she returns!

Looking for something a little different for breakfast?

Job’s tears porridge is a warm, satisfying alternative to oats, slowly cooked with pear or apple, orange zest, ginger and cinnamon. In Chinese medicine, Job’s tears are traditionally used to help clear Dampness—particularly when you are feeling heavy, foggy, sluggish or achy.

This recipe is a lovely example of how food can do more than simply fill us up. By choosing ingredients thoughtfully, we can create meals that support the body while still being comforting and delicious.

Read the blog and try the recipe here: https://www.orientalwisdom.com.au/2021/07/31/warming-winter-porridge/

If you would like to explore more practical ways to use food to support your health, my full-day workshop, The Art of Nourishment: Food as Medicine, is coming up on 30 August. Comment NOURISH below if you would like more details

Spring may feel as though it is just around the corner, but winter is not over yet.

This final month invites us to resist the urge to rush ahead and continue honouring winter’s quieter energy—to slow down, rest deeply, nourish our reserves and listen to what our bodies need.

Tania's Winter Self-Care eBook, Return to Stillness, explores the wisdom of the Water Element through Chinese medicine, with practical guidance on seasonal foods, the Kidney and Bladder systems, fear and inner wisdom, the Chinese body clock and simple self-care rituals.

There is still time to embrace the gifts of winter—and carry greater strength, clarity and vitality into spring.

Winter invites us to slow down.

Nature isn't rushing right now. The trees have let go of their leaves, animals conserve their energy, and the earth is quietly restoring itself.

Yet many of us do the opposite.

We push through tiredness. We fill every spare moment. We keep saying "I'll rest later"… until our body starts making the decision for us.

Burnout rarely happens overnight. It's often the result of ignoring the small whispers for too long.

From a Chinese medicine perspective, winter is the season to replenish your deepest reserves of energy. The more we work with the season instead of against it, the more resilient we become—not just for winter, but for the busy months ahead.

If you've been feeling exhausted, running on empty, or simply finding it harder to keep up, this article explores why winter is the perfect time to pause, restore, and prevent burnout naturally.

Read the blog here:
https://www.orientalwisdom.com.au/2026/04/01/prevent-burnout-naturally/

And if you're ready for some extra support, acupuncture can be a wonderful way to calm the nervous system, restore your energy, and help your body find its way back to balance.

What exactly is Qigong?

Tania runs Qigong classes every Friday at 4pm at the Blackheath Fitness Centre, and one of the questions she's asked most often is, "What is Qigong?"

If you've seen her qigong posts and have been curious about what it's all about, she recently joined Sallyanne Pisk on the Eating for You Podcast to answer that very question.

In their conversation they explore:
☯️ What Qigong is and how it differs from Tai Chi.
☯️ Why gentle movement can be so powerful.
☯️ How Qigong supports your nervous system, balance, energy and overall wellbeing.

If you're curious to learn more, have a listen to the podcast.
https://www.orientalwisdom.com.au/resources/video/

The best way to understand Qigong is to experience it for yourself. If you'd like to give it a try, join us on Friday afternoons at 4pm at the Blackheath Fitness Centre. No experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome.
