WDTAC has had another fun-filled and busy week!

We celebrated World Chocolate Day with a delicious hot chocolate and the opportunity to enjoy a selection of chocolate treats. A visit to the KDH Kiosk for morning tea was also a lovely chance to catch up and enjoy time together.

We were entertained by the ever-popular Victor, who always gets everyone singing along, and it was wonderful to welcome back the Kerang Singers, who once again delighted us with their performance.

Our participants have also been busy fine-tuning their hand-eye coordination through a variety of ball games as we prepare for our very own Commonwealth Games Day in the coming weeks. The friendly rivalry continued during our weekly game of Carpet Bowls, with another nail-biting finish—the match was decided by just a single shot!

NAIDOC week.
5-12 July 2026.
This years theme is
“50 Years of Deadly”.

On Tuesday we welcomed Wendy who read several stories including “Mallee Sky” and “The Spirit of Sound”, then she showed us her artefacts that were handed down to her by her Mother.
Of great significance were two woven baskets from Elcho Island (Galiwan ‘Ku) off the coast of Arnhem Land N.T.
Also, a Nulla Nulla (Waddy/Boondi) - traditional wooden hunting stick - which belonged to her Grandfather.

On Wednesday we took a bus outing to Yung Balug Aboriginal artefacts Museum at Boort - owned by Paul & Cathie Haw.
A very extensive & interesting collection was impressive!
Paul provided wattle seed scones with plum jam & cream for morning tea, pea & ham soup for lunch, followed by a BBQ - which everyone really enjoyed.

On the way home we drove around Lake Boort & spotted some scar trees and then went up to the Boort lookout for a bird’s eye view of the township!

Kerang District Health would like to extend our acknowledgement and pay our respects to the People of the Barapa Barapa Nation and its community members.
The significance of NAIDOC week is so much more than a week on a calendar. It is a gathering of all people that reminds us that is a platform for truth, a statement of survival that celebrates a remarkable history of strength and resilience of First Nations people.

This year’s theme is “50 Years of Deadly” this theme supports us to reflect and look back at the leadership of the generations before us who stood up for fairness and fought for rights & recognition by healing our past to build & create a better future for all.

Here in the Kerang area and its districts on Barapa Barapa Country we are lucky to share a space with deep and rich Aboriginal History, beautiful country and landscapes, waterways that we can all share and appreciate.

“We stand in solidarity”.

WD Thomas Activity Centre

WDTAC was delighted to host the Kerang DV MC Car Club on Thursday, 2 July, for a fantastic day of vehicle viewing, socialising, and plenty of fun.

Our attendees enjoyed spending time with the Car Club members, admiring the impressive range of vehicles, and voting for their favourite. The People's Choice Award ended in a tie, making the competition even more exciting!

The quiz was another highlight of the day, with plenty of laughter, friendly rivalry, and great teamwork from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to the Kerang DV MC Car Club for being part of this special day and helping create such a memorable experience for our attendees.

We would also like to sincerely thank our wonderful volunteers—Karina, Ruth, Fay, and Vivian—for all of your hard work and support in the lead-up to the event and on the day. Your dedication and assistance are greatly appreciated.
