“HOT OFF THE PRESS FROM AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS 📰

It is now considered safe to mix freshly expressed breastmilk with milk that was pumped previously and already chilled in fridge ✅

What was recommended before: chill all milk to same temperature and then mix together. 💿

Admittedly, this is something many parents have said they already do, but in the name of the AAP, is now in the category of safe to do! 👩🏽‍⚕️

This is helpful for the “pitcher method” that many exclusive pumpers do which is have a pitcher of breastmilk in fridge that they add to throughout the day to combine all breastmilk from day. 🍶

As always, the less you move milk from one container to the other, pull in and out of fridge etc., there is less chance of germies hopping into the milk 🦠

This said though, breastmilk is a living substance with germ fighting super powers so there’s that 💪🏽

It is best if you mix milk from the SAME day for dating purposes. Remember if you do choose to mix yesterdays milk with today’s, it should be dated yesterday’s date because it is as the OLDEST milk in the mix 📦

To add, you are a pumping liquid gold creating goddess so enjoy your Saturday you amazing soul you 😘”

As we all know, recommendations vary from country to country - so it will certainly be interesting to see how this news might change those guidelines around the world!

Lactation is a normal physiological process for postpartum women. All mothers should eat well, although not perfectly, every day to ensure health and wellbeing regardless of breastfeeding status. A healthy diet should consist of a wide range of foods. A simple breakdown of a lactating woman's diet should be 50-55% carbohydrates ( complex), 12-15% protein and 20-30% fats ( unsaturated, non-trans fatty acid)....

Hi, Have noticed a lack of access to antenatal classes, maternity services, breastfeeding support and no mums group run by CHN on the mid north coast, so have decided to make myself available for a few more hours per week to provide holistic, comprehensive and affordable in home antenatal education classes and breastfeeding/lactation consultations.

Unfortunately, despite our wishes, hopes and best efforts, sometimes breastfeeding and early motherhood isn’t as easy as we expected it to be. If you are having trouble with breastfeeding, settling or adjusting to being a mum at anytime in your journey, contact me to organise a consultation.
