Hey everyone, thought I'd share something a little more personal today. I'll be stepping away from the clinic for the next two weeks, and after opening up to a few clients about the reason why, I realised it's a part of my story worth sharing here too.
I'm a proud Vietnamese boat refugee who arrived in Australia with my widowed mum in 1983, 43 years ago now. Over the next two weeks, I'll be taking my mum and our family back to Pulau Bidong, Malaysia, the refugee camp where we lived for two years while waiting for our application to be accepted somewhere, anywhere.
It's going to be an emotional trip, but it will be one of the most meaningful ones I'll ever make. I'll share a few snippets along the way, as I know some of you are keen to learn a little more about my journey to Australia.
Here's the only picture I have from my time on the island, it was my first communion. Not sure why no one's smiling! Apart from my mum, I don't actually know anyone else in this photo, as we lost contact with everyone when we left the island for Australia.
Stay tuned for updates as I embark on the return to where it all began.
