🏠 Can We Count You In?

Our housing journeys can change quickly.

In the past year, have you:
βœ” Moved back in with your parents?
βœ” Left a rental because it became too expensive?
βœ” Stayed with family or friends because you couldn't find a place of your own?
βœ” Moved between temporary places to stay?

Question 14 of the 2026 Census asks where you usually lived one year ago. Your answer helps tell the story of housing stress, instability and homelessness in the South Burnett.

By sharing your housing journey, you're helping create a clearer picture of the challenges people in our community are facing.

Every answer matters. Every person counts.

🏠 Can We Count You In?

Do you have a place you can truly call home?

If you've been evicted, are couch surfing, moving between family and friends, living temporarily in a caravan or shed, or don't have a fixed address, the Census has guidance for you.

When answering Question 13 – "Where does the person usually live?", if you don't have a fixed or return address, the Census instructions say to write "NONE" in the Suburb/Locality box.

This simple response helps provide a more accurate picture of hidden homelessness in our community.

Every person counted helps us better understand housing insecurity in the South Burnett and ensures people experiencing homelessness are represented in the data.

🧑 Your housing situation matters. Your story counts.

🏠 Can We Count You In?

Did you know that if you're staying with friends or family on Census Night, that's where you should be counted?

Many people experiencing housing instability don't realise they still need to be included in the Census. Whether you're:
βœ” Staying with relatives temporarily
βœ” Sleeping on a friend's couch
βœ” Living in a caravan on someone else's property
βœ” Staying somewhere because you have nowhere else to go

You count.

By completing the Census where you're staying on Census Night, you're helping build a more accurate picture of homelessness and housing insecurity in the South Burnett.

Every response helps ensure people experiencing hidden homelessness are counted and recognised.

🏠 Can We Count You In?

Many people think homelessness is a choice. The reality is that most people experiencing homelessness are facing circumstances beyond their control.

Housing shortages, rising rents, domestic and family violence, relationship breakdowns, illness, and job loss can all leave people without a safe and secure place to call home.

During Homelessness Census Week (10–16 August), every response helps build a clearer picture of housing insecurity in the South Burnett. The more accurate our data, the better we can understand the challenges facing our community and advocate for meaningful solutions.

Because every person counts.
