In the world of professional and semi-professional football I always think that’s it’s dangerous to continually expose our athletes to high-speed running without truly understanding exactly how they move and generate such forces.

As an example poor front side mechanics such as over striding is likely to lead to some form of hamstring injury.

On the other hand poor back side mechanics such as under recovering is likely to create issues such as osteitis p***s - a very common issue among footballers.

High-speed running is extremely important but I think that delving deeper and gaining a greater awareness of how the players we work with carry out such a task is likely to lead to greater athletic outcomes.

I think that as coaches one of the easiest things to do is establish that there is a problem, the hardest part is often understanding such a problem in enough detail in order to allow ourselves to find and develop a suitable solution.

I was asked the other day about different sporting moments I’ve really enjoyed over the years. I will never get tired of watching people work hard in an attempt to chase a big goal or dream but I thought I’d share some photos/videos of different sporting moments over the past fourteen years that have really touched me both on a professional and personal level!

1 - Jay competing in the FFA Cup Final last year
2 - Hayden competing at the 2018 Olympics in the four man bobsleigh
3 - Todd winning gold in the beach sprints at the World Masters Games
4 - Jacob getting himself back in the Octagon at UFC 325 and putting in an incredible performance
5 - Matty making his A-League debut for Melbourne City

Each was special for different reasons but all of them created memories for me personally that will last a lifetime!
